i honestly don't know why this game has positive reviews
this game is like as if someone watched that silent hill movie adaptation, typed in "silent hill" in google images and decided to make a game inspired by it without understanding what makes silent hill great in the first place.
this game honestly also just feels like such a rip off
they took the whole otherworld idea and rusty red-ish look from silent hill, the siren sounds, the chained up door from sh4, there is a monster which kinda looks and moves like the nurses from sh2, then they also have something about "a burned girl" and a little black haired girl in a blue dress..
hmm.. i wonder were they got those ideas from..
i'm fine with being inspired by something but this is just a bit much..
if it was at least good i could kinda forgive them but it just isn't.
it's just an unoriginal lackluster game with no understanding of atmosphere or story.
it's just jumpscare, jumpscare, jumpscare, bad combat here and a badly written story there. oh and achievements every 2 minutes, i can still hear that sound..
it honestly just feels like a trashy unity horror game from the late 2000s, and i hate saying that because i looove indie horror games and i know this game was made by only one person, so really, sorry, i know this review is harsh
but g-ddamn, this game just completely misses the mark, i honestly wouldn't even play it for free.
maybe next time just be a bit more creative and don't just try to copy something else, do your own thing and don't give up.
and maybe don't rely so much on jumpscares and instead focus a bit more on world building and atmosphere because this game just honestly felt very, very trashy

one of the greatest horror games imo.
incredible soundtrack and atmosphere, the atmosphere of the whole game is phenomenal.
its extremely impressive how this game was made by like 2-3 people i think? and is literally running on the gold source engine
a shame that the source remake got cancelled, what could've been.. :(

this game wants to be P.T. so bad that it even starts in the same room.. (nevermind the chained doors in the dolores chapter which are just directly taken from Silent Hill 4: The Room..)
this game does almost nothing original
it's predictable, story-wise and scares-wise and full of cliches.
don't get me wrong it can be really good at times and there are some moments where the atmosphere is really really strong and then, they ruin it by a jumpscare or some edgy "deep" cutscene/scene
add to that that the quality of this game is really inconsistent and the game-design so bad that its not even funny, especially the inventory system.
you almost can't complete the game without following a guide. It worked for P.T. because it was nothing more than a 30 minute teaser made to reveal Silent Hills which was "expected to take upwards of a week to beat".
and then there is visage, a full 10 hours game. it just doesn't work here at all, it gets very old very quick. especially having to constantly find lighters because the game is so dark you can't see ♥♥♥♥, dark =/= scary but i guess the developers thought otherwise.
its not scary, it's just frustrating, and that's what i'd call the whole game, frustrating. you're aimlessly running from one place to the other, back and forth till you eventually -out of luck- interact with the right object to progress the story.

there are the four chapters in this game-
Lucy, Dolores, Rakan and Mirror Mask
and none of them except for the latter (which came out like a year or something after release mind you) has anything to do with the main story.

Lucy Chapter (8/10):
definitely the best out of the three chapters but it still isn't anything special, its basically just the ring/the grudge, but it was pretty good.

Dolores Chapter (6/10):
women goes insane and then kills herself woo, haven't heard that one before.

Rakan (4/10):
easily the worst one, it was just bad. your typical mental asylum trope while being chased through a psych ward by a crippled insane guy. wooow. basically every outlast wannabe game ever. it felt like a chore to complete.

Mirror Mask (5/10):
it was fine i guess, but almost impossible without a guide.

overall i didn't really like visage at all, i don't feel like it offered anything original, let alone a mostly good experience,
it had it's moment, for sure, but i don't really get the praise this game constantly gets. its mediocre at best.
you guys remember that leaked concept art from the unreleased Silent Hill game with the "i hate myself" paper on her head? this is literally that exact image as an entire game.

and i really don't get why people complain about how The Medium deals with mental health issues and then praise this game
i mean this dude over here literally kills his entire family (wife and 2 children) (cough cough P.T..) and then there's an ending where he meets them again. IN F-ING HEAVEN, dude what??

okay, maybe i was a bit harsh on this game, i'm still not a fan of it, wished they would've done something a bit more original, it's not a terrible game but it's definitely not something i'd wanna replay.

what a gem
strong SH1 and Twin Peak vibes while still managing to be its own thing
great atmoshpere and sounds, and some really cool camera angles aswell
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loved the P.T. and Silent Hill 2 Easter Egg near the end

really excited to see what they're going to do with the full game.
