An excellent video game experience, with great soundtracks, great characters and solid gameplay.

As a long time Reus player, I was eager to play this new version, and I was not disappointed. This games reinvents the formula, being similar but at the same time different, and overall gives off a different feel than the original.
The game is more streamlined
  • No more weird combination trees you need to memorize or look up, no more trying to get the rare aspects, here you
can see everything. The higher level animals are locked up behind a draft system, which ultimately limits which one you will get in a single run and incentivizes careful choices; instead of upgrading from other animals, they go on specific patches, of which you can only create a limited amount, requiring further planning.
  • Each giant has its role. You now get to chose from a larger set of giants, but you ultimately have one for plants, one for animals and one for minerals ; the exact giant you chose will allow you to have different biomes.
The game is less stressful
  • No more time limit. The original Reus had a speedrunny gameplay, where you want to optimize your giants' movement and actions to make the most out of the alloted time, while managing cooldowns. Here, you are only limited by a virtual time, which represents the number of actions you can take in an era; you can take all the time in the world to plan.
  • No more war/rebellion. Although this was interesting in the first game, it could also be a PITA to manage. Here, humans will not rebel against you and you do not have to enact your mighty vengeance, nor stop them from eliminating each other.
  • There is still a lot of flexibility in your choices. The planet shop in particular gives you a lot of options for the direction you want to take.
Conclusion
I strongly encourage you to play this game and the first Reus; both are great. If you are new to the franchise, I would probably encourage you to give this one a try first.
