Fun game - I've played this game on a mate's account before. Finally decided to grab it for myself during the lunar new year sale. It's still a good game and have very little bad things to say about it. I especially enjoy the developer's commitment to frequent updates and bug patches.

Unfortunately, at this moment it's very poorly optimised. My PC's GPU hasn't been working, so I thought Overcrowd would be the perfect non intensive game to tide me over until I resolve my issues. What's most aggravating is the fact that more graphics intensive games run better than Overcrowd does on my computer. I don't want to knock the game and leave a poor review because it IS extremely good. But I do want to just put this out there - despite the simple pixel sprites and isometric camera, this is not a game that you can run on just any PC.

It's an amazing game, but there's an issue with this game only using a single core. It's sort of gamebreaking, especially with large armies and the movement drops to a frame per 5 seconds. To be clear, the game itself is not lagging - I can pan the camera around the map at 60fps, and do everything else fine. But the units' movements and attacks themselves are very very slow.

It's not very beginner friendly. It's always easy to check what your kit is in Overwatch by holding F1 anytime ingame. But in Paladins, I have no idea what anything is. When you get bumped to a different character that you haven't checked out in the menu yet, you're in for a bumpy game.

I was also pretty miffed that the whole "Free Barik skin" thing wasn't exactly a walk in the park to get. To unlock Barik in the first place, you either have to grind for coins or buy him with microtransactions. Receiving ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in Overwatch, especially when you get legendary skins, helps keeps players attached and engaged with their characters. You're not gonna get that same emotional draw in Paladins.

I understand that Paladins probably has lower production values and therefore it's not as polished as Overwatch. However, as a F2P game, it needs to be more accessible to new players. If Hi-Rez doesn't put more effort into this game, I'm pretty sure it'll end up like Battleborn, the stillborn game.

As of now, I'm not sure I'd recommend this to anyone. It's more of a check out and delete kind of experience. Nothing compelling yet. It's a good start though, and I can't wait to see what's next to come in this game.

It's an old but great game. Just don't expect much. Land battles definitely feel more balanced than Empire at War. Also, if you're on Windows 10 (like the rest of the world) you WILL need to download a patch for it because Steam really screwed up.

Oh and if you're some fanatical purist...no, it's not canon.
