I rarely write reviews but I want to do it here since this is a very special case of the developer doing the right thing. After the game colossally flopping as live service, they yanked all the f2p/mmo nonsense out, shoved the game into early access and made a single player first, co-op with friends secondary, affair.

That is all well and good but how is the game itself? Is it any good?

I would answer this, after playing it for three hours, with a resounding yes. I love the artstyle (not too hard, I as Airship Syndicate's founder is Joe Madueira, creator of the Battle Chaser comics, Darksiders and more), the story (even if barebones) and the gameplay that reminds of a mixture of Darksiders and Kingdoms of Amalur when it comes to game feel. I want to go back for more right now and that is usually a very good sign with me. And once I have written this review here, I am going back for more. This is gonna be my Sunday now.

There is some issues though, that I can see cropping up later and that I will address now: the game is still, in many core aspects, designed as a looter f2p games. That shows in how you go into dungeons, doing "raids" (for a lack of better term) and so on. It seems like it is tooled in favor of the player at the moment but I also can see why some people might feel like that this could get stale rather quickly. It is a game of repetition and grind after all and it will never be able break free from these shakles, so keep this in mind.

Another issue I had are technical in nature. I am not having the most up to date rig with Nvidia 2070 Super but I feel like that game doesn't warrant massive frame drops and stutters on 1080p with medium settings. This is something that can be fixed during early access though and I hope the devs keep optimizing the game.

For now the game gets a thumbs up from me and I hope Airship Syndicate will stick around, not only for the engoodening of Wayfinder but for many games to come, because up till now I have been a fan of their work and I want to see them what they are coming up next with (maybe a new Battle Chaser, pretty please?!).
