Has as much potential as I did being a "gifted" child.

If you like tooling around in a sandbox, don't write this one off. Maybe don't pay full price for it.

This game is an unfortunate victim of feature creep, and most of the development was focused on mechanics rather than storytelling. Story can pretty much be summarized as "here ye go! Have fun!" and not a whole lot of depth there. Some of the factions have very fun lines to play with. The companions I could really care less about, and most of theme are lawful good anyways, so if you want to have fun, leave them in the car and get McDonald's to shut them up.

As a space flight simulator junkie, they did do a pretty good job incorporating ground and flight combat transitions. The only game I have seen do it marginally well is Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter.

Outpost building is fine or whatever. Not something I am interested in, so I mostly did it for the achievements.

Some things that didn't make sense to me:

- The same old Bethesda merchant limits.
- Planet exploration is BORING. All creatures are based of of bugs and lizards. Nothing else.
- Scaling difficulty in flight combat is a sharp peak. And there needs to be something done about friendly fire. I don't need a bounty for something I didn't intend on doing.
- LOCKPICKING
- Contraband isn't worth your time, and isn't as fun to participate in
- Ships aren't worth hijacking. I have looted guns worth 10x as much money as I can get for a ship.
- The hell is the point of neuroamps if there are only three flavors and they do basically the same thing??

A lot of this stuff I ended up fixing with mods for quality of life, as is tradition.


My rubric is generally: If nothing keeps me playing other than my ADHD hyperfocus, it's not an engaging game. Under this classification, I give it a 7/10

Considering this early access is only on ver .15, I am tremendously impressed by how complete it is already and the response time of the developers.

Fantabulous level design. Updated abilites, generally an enjoyable sequal.

That being said, there are significant tech issues with it. Honestly, this should not have been a flagship game for a new engine. The skyboxes were MASSIVE compared to the actual playable levels, and a lot of the environmental models did not have to be so detailed. (The Karnaca docks and the Dust District come immediately to mind here.)

Otherwise, fantastic story, wonderful characters and diverse NPCs.
