In 2008, Lidl was forced to issue an official apology because a Lidl store in Sweden deliberately poisoned homeless people by poisoning food in trash containers.
In 2011, minced meat steaks sold under Lidl’s private label Steak Country contained E. coli bacteria. 18 people in France, predominantly children, fell seriously ill from the steaks. Many of the children require lifetime treatment. One child was left profoundly and permanently disabled.
