Decent concept, but got hard-locked in the first chapter. Unable to continue even after reloading the game. No way to load previous saves so I'm just boned. Seems like a really cool game, unfortunate I cannot recommend.

Extremely solid little horror game, and a great intro of what else to expect from El Paso. Delivered with way more quality than I'd expect from a 5 dollar little spin-off teaser game. Definitely worth picking up and playing through, and there's a ton of replay with all the Nightmare mode modifiers.

Pretty solid little horror game. Overpriced at 25 bucks, decent at 15 and great at 10. The core gameplay loop has way too many repetitive QTEs. Hard to say too much more without spoiling it, but the game is good for at least two playthroughs. Combat is dry, the game definitely shines in the classic survival horror puzzles. Definitely appreciated how all the puzzle items are in the same room as the puzzle. Overall an ambitious project from a decent team, can't wait to see what they do next!

Fantastic little horror game that delivers really unique scares in a very tight package. Definitely surprised me more than a few times, but never became esoteric to the point where the path forward wasn't clear. Definitely another great showing from HPS1!

Playing Devils Share, I knew the game felt like an unforgivably cheap cash-in. As I stated before, it is often hard to tell between a scam and a genuinely amateur project that just lacked the skills or funding to come out better. Rarely do I find a Steam review that both elucidates and educates, but the prefect words explaining this mess were right at the top. Courtesy user “Rushcaliber”:

“Town, Guns, Monsters. This is literally the game. And for people to defend this crap?”

Well put, Mr. Caliber. In this case, we have evidence that this game was created with $120 of assets and not a single good natured f***. This game is a f****** sham, and should not be on steam...

I wasn’t going to beat Escape Dead Island. At about the halfway point, I figured I had seen most of what the game had to offer and was ready to sign off on a score of “surprisingly decent.” But Far Cry 4 hadn’t finished downloading yet, and there are only so many times you can j*** off before it starts to hurt, so I decided to slog through the rest as an accoutrement to my nightly alcohol consumption. Thank God I did, as it turns out that sloth would have proved my folly, as the game turns out to actually be s***. Whew, good thing too; we almost had a good Dead Island game on our hands! I’m not sure how I’d be able to fit that into my fragile world view....

It’s vague how much “talent” actually factors into the success of a micro-budget horror game. There are about a million renditions of the “walk through a place while something chases you” game, and as the fans of the genre age and tastes change it becomes harder and harder to put out a hit. This is a natural evolution, where things must always become stale before devs are forced to evolve. As someone who has always disliked these games, feeling like they are pointless jump scare engines with no substance, this slow crawl towards a broader scope is a welcome one. Rake is not a huge leap, but it also isn’t a weary sidestep in an attempt to get out of a puddle of subway urine....
