Just purchased the game during the 2025 spring sale and a quick five minute single player game on the Steam Deck worked well.
Will put some time into this in the coming months

This game scratches all the right itches.

player movement is a bit janky and the camera movement is also a bit janky. I felt this aspect was better in the early access release '90s Football Stars that got pulled from Steam and thus re-released as Golazo! Soccer League.

There is a charm to this game, graphics are good, sound is good, environment is good but for anyone who remembers Playstation 2 era football games, the players are as stiff as Fifa's used to be and this suffers from the once upon a time Pro Evo, can't break the receiving player's through ball run (Pro Evo introduced a button combination to break the players run) and the once upon a time, just run down the wing and cross it in for a header goal.
This game also shares the irritation that if the AI team want to score, they will score and you can't do anything about it. You can also spam passes like Fifa but there will always be a wayward pass to mess that up.

My intention is not to compare this game but to best explain my game play experience so that you may be familiar with my explanation.

It would be nice to change the formation, ball flight is over powered in a lot of instances but you can score some fist clenching goals

As I say, there is a charm to this game and I hope the devs revisit this after their change of pace because there is something within this game that could shine.

I could persevere playing this, may be in short sessions and although it is a nice change of scenery from other football games, it does feel like a struggle to play after a few games.

I would leave a neutral recommendation but its a No for now.

edit: I've been playing for a year now and have added another 185.3 hrs to my play time. I only play on official EU servers and I have not come across any hackers, maybe I'm lucky.

edit: sad times, my gaming laptop (ASUS GL703GM) died last Jan and only managed 11.7hrs before its final session.

edit: struggled to play this past year due to potato laptop, managed 16.8hrs. Looking forward to one day in the future when I have another gaming laptop. I love this game

Great Game.

I've played this game since it was released on CD back in 1999/2000 and there is nothing more satisfying to play than a good old game of Age Of Empires. I don't think that I'll ever not play this game.

I enjoy this game. I don't have time to build huge bases and mainly play solo. I only play with the expectation that as soon as I log off, when I next log on, I'd have been killed, lost all of my stuff and will have to start from scratch again. I will often try to find the most secluded place before I log off, which can give me at least a week with my gear. I am fine playing like this.

I've only ever played on official EU servers and have never come across any hackers. I did once see one player with a long sword beating on a base but they were attempting to destroy a crest on the other side of the wall. So if you build a base, strategically place your crest so that it can not be attcked through a wall.

I have no issues with the performance of the game. I really like the sound track and the game does produce some rather excellent gamer interactions that, for me have been bonkers.

10/10 would dance with Derrick again
