I spent the majority of my time in this game trying and failing to find the tutorial character that's supposed to, like, get you started on the whole hacking stuff I was interested in.
The person was supposed to be at [location] at [time]. The person wasn't. I spent 80 minutes wandering the town, asking literally everyone I could where this person was. All I got told was that the person was at [location] between [times]. The person was never there at those or any times.
It left a sour taste in my mouth and I haven't touched the game in ages because every time I see it I'm just reminded of wasting my time.
Am I unfairly judging a game I literally didn't get to play the story of? Am I salty? Probably, yeah.

Early Access Review
I'm less than an hour in so far, but this feels exactly like what the original shapez wanted to be. Absolute masterpiece, impeccable design and style. My only complaint so far is that my brain keeps trying to use Factorio hotkeys because it already feels like it has that kind of polish.

I played a lot of the original Flash versions back in the Olden Days, and I loved all of them then. Seeing them again with the joys of high quality and improved animation, as well as the extended story. Magnificent.

I will admit that I did not complete this game. That is primarily because I found no reason to continue past the bit over an hour I played.
The characters had nothing compelling about them. The story had no hook. I had no interest in finding out where the story went because I had no reason to care. The characters felt like they had nothing going on in their heads.
Maybe all this was the point, but I get no enjoyment from it.

This is a pretty chill game that's good to go into zen mode while playing. You'll find yourself zip-zappin' along at hundreds upon hundreds of kilometers per second while just bobbing along to whatever tunes are playing. Absolute prime.

Also, the dev seems like a chill dude.

I got this game a few months ago. Over 200 hours in that time. I bought a HOTAS. It's fantastic, if you like space sims.

This is the same game as Skyrim, but in a different setting.
However, in Skyrim your choices could sometimes have meaning. Here, you have a few paths to take, and they're straight shots.

The dialogue is dull. You have a whole 4 choices at any point in your unclear dialogue shrub, as many people have complained about.

The perks system has been gutted, stuffed with the corpse of the skills system, and reanimated to pose as a good idea.
Perks are meant to be ways that the player character can bend or break the rules of the world in different ways.
Now most of those perks are missing and instead you have "increase some number that would have been in the skills menu but that thing commited suicide with two round to the back of the head."
Yes, there are some perks that do let you bend the rules, but you only get one perk per level, so you have to decide between "cool perk" and "being able to survive."

Similarly, you can use perk points to increase any and all of your SPECIAL.
No, not a limited amount, like the "Extra SPECIAL" perk. All of them, all the way up to 10.
Thus your character turns into a Mary Sue. They have no limits. They can do anything and everything.

A more personal gripe now.
The compass is, by all accounts, the Skyrim compass with a different texture.
That is, enemies only show as red blips when they are aware of your presence.
That may not sound like a bad thing, but allow me to explain.
The PipBoy has various features, and one of them is the identification, and classification, of potential hostiles. Non-hostiles, the normal HUD color. Hostiles, red.
The PipBoy has this feature in the game universe, and it has been removed from this game because somebody decided to just use the Skyrim assets.

In short, this is not a Fallout game. This is a fever dream of the Dovahkin.

This is hardly deserving the title of Choose Your Own Adventure. I played it multiple times to see different endings. They are about as varied as the endings of Mass Effect 3. They are the same endings with different flavor.

The story-line is basically the same no matter what choices you make. Pretty much every choice has the same outcome. You end up in the same places doing the same things no matter what. The "love-interest" tries to seduce you even if you scorn and insult them every chance you get. You end up at a building with "Not-The-Justice-League" even if you were told you weren't going to be part of the team. Even if you're a total ♥♥♥♥, you still get the "You're Great" award.

I never had a character die, but from what I can tell death isn't a straight game over like it is in the CYOA books. You aparently just lose some reputation or something like that.

It's like driving on a highway with walls around it. You can decide what lane you want to drive in, but you can't go off the road.
