Early Access Review
I genuinely abhore how fun this game is. I thought "this is a fun little game I'll play twice" when I first played a few rounds with a friend.

I have played it for nearly a day total now. I cant stop thinking about it. The music isnt even the best part by a long shot! WHEN THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT HE'S KNOWN FOR

Now the tracks are stuck in my head and everytime I want to stop everything and boot up the game. I want to play this at work. I want to play it off work. I'll be about to head to bed when an ice stage track comes on and suddenly want to play this game. It's such a simple game. It was SUPPOSED TO BE A STUPID MEME GAME. WHY IS IT FUN.

I HATE THIS. I WANT TO STOP WANTING TO PLAY THIS GAME SO MUCH. I ALREADY HAVE 200+ HOURS IN RISK OF RAIN 2, I DONT NEED TO DO THIS AGAIN.

yes this is a good game. It's not even out of early access yet. Buy it now.

Watched my friends stream a few levels of this game, our brains melted by the end of it and immediately I had to buy it.

I still haven't beat this game. Don't think I ever will, to be completely honest. I take some pride in being further than my friends will probably ever get, but that's it. Seriously. This is a hard game. Don't come in expecting to 100% it unless you are unironically galaxy brained or are okay looking it up/getting hints for some levels. Don't let that discourage you, by any means, I'm recommending it for a reason. It is genuinely fun for all ages, and when you DO get it you feel like the smartest person in the world.

Don't expect to be wowed by the story in this one, and platforming is just a mite bit jank in my honest opinion BUT I mean... you see the hours on record right there, it's a good rhythm action game. The jankiness might even be your cup of tea- really lends it's hand to the "nostalgia" factor, it feels like playing a 2000s action/adventure platformer. The voice acting is solid (and the mc easily does the best job), if not cheesy as the rest of the dialog at times (and self-referential to all hell, another relic taken from the 2000s era of games) but the art style, level design and music is top notch. Even the original tracks in the streamer mode are worth a listen.

As far as action/combat mechanics go, it's no Furi, if you've played that, but it is still really solid. You can tell they built the rest of the game around the gameplay first and foremost. It's just a damn fun game, with a silly little story to keep it in place.

But if you're only sort of good at rhythm, absolutely dont play this game on hard first time around. Just trust me on this one. You will have zero motivation to go back and S rank it, and an even harder difficulty unlocks at the end anyways. You'll get half way through the game wishing youd just picked normal, so you could feel like you're actually good at the game, and you could try hard another time. It's not a game you want to really drag out by platinuming, enjoy it for what it is your first go around to get the most out of it.

By the time of this review I will have had 8 hours in this game. I am only halfway through.

That is to say, I suck major bollocks at this game. HOWEVER, I plan to complete it, because once you *really* get a feel for the controls, this game becomes a lot smoother to play- and a lot more addicting. I won't say easier, because it's not that true. But I went from being hard filtered by the second boss to being able to get to all the phases of the next couple bosses on the first few tries (which yes, is an improvement for me)

The gameplay is key here. Furi oozes style, and the tracks are sick to boot. If you dont mind a challenge, or want a game that ostensibly improves your general skill as a gamer, you could do far worse than Furi. Maybe pick it up on sale if you're unsure.

As an avid fan of the original, I thought I'd seen all the endings, received all possible lines of dialogue and secrets, and tried every possible combination of triggers for things on my complete playthrough the day prior. Booted up the game this morning and discovered I'd still managed to miss some unique lines of dialogue (possible only after completing the epilogue, mind you).

11/10 would reccommend.

My only complaint is that the darkest ending can only be achieved once (no spoilers, but if you've just been introduced to the new content door, keep that in mind), so I suggest you savor it while you can. And I miss the old Games ending, but of course that would have to be updated to fit this new gaming era (as timeless as the original games ending was imo)

If you love secrets, witty banter, charming voice acting, and absolutely love constantly changing fluff text and easter eggs, dont read any more reviews and simply go forth and experience the game in all of it's bizarre and amusing glory.

If you can get over the fact this game is owned by EA and therefore can afford to continue playing on ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ea servers (and I have 470 hrs on the origin version of this game so believe me you get used to it) it's definitely the best battle royale on the market. Being first person really branches the divide for a lot of casual shooter fans like myself, who grew up on cod multiplayer and didnt have anywhere to go once cod stopped being fun and battle royales became the next big thing. But once you get past that initial fps skill ceiling, the game is a lot more than shooting. There's genuine strategizing that can be done by mixing and matching legends and abilities, and there's an incredible sense of progress at becoming better at characters you like. I absolutely recommend playing this game with friends or family because pubs is NOT how you want to experience this game. With the addition of the duos gamemode and crossplay, it should be near impossible not to have someone to play with at any given time.

Just load in, drop in, die a bunch, and don't be afraid to experiment with all the characters and abilities till you find your mesh. The game becomes a lot more fun when you understand how other legends play and react, and infinitely more satisfying when you yourself learn how to use the map and character abilities to your advantage.

The graphics and landscapes in the game are also honestly beautiful to boot, with the newest map Olympus boasting absolutely stunning visual areas sprinkled across the map. Some areas give me serious black ops 2 vibes. Honestly the weakest part may just be the actual character cosmetics themselves and there's still some pretty good ones out there.

The best part for me is the LORE! Most people dont play a BR for the story- I certainly didnt think I would, but the apex writers and devs have crafted an AWESOME story that gets more layers added each season, though comic strips, quests, voice line interactions between specific characters and more. My only gripe on that end is that some bits of lore are easy to miss when posted to places like twitter or instagram only and not highlighted in game. But if you find yourself interested in the lore, it's definitely worth finding a compilation video to catch you up, listening to some of the voiceline interactions, or checking the descriptions on old loading screens on the wiki.

As my favorite MRVN would say, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die.
