Edits: broke down positives and negatives; grammar & spelling

Positives: Beautiful soundtrack. The environmentals and the atmosphere are very well done. Each enemy and area feel well-designed and contribute positively to the atmospheric experience. The records you collect contain some more beautiful music and it's enjoyable to just listen and enjoy the music in the hub area. The plot is straightforward and interesting enough to make the player want to progress to learn more about the characters and what's going on. The side-quests are also more straightforward than the game's inspiration (Dark Souls) it's nice to be able to naturally purchase an item or talk to an NPC and know that you've done something to progress their plots.

Negatives: Not as fluid a combat experience as was probably intended. Lies of P can't decide whether it wants to be a slower-paced combat game like Dark Souls 1, a fast-paced combat game like Bloodbourne, or a deflect/dodge combat game like Sekiro. It poorly combines elements from each so you end up with a character neither strong enough nor fast enough to truly embrace either, and a perfect guard mechanic that doesn't break combos, doesn't stagger, isn't visually depicting anything at all, and doesn't really do anything but frustrate the player because the window's extremely tight. Also, random damage by your weapons makes mob control more difficult for no reason.
Additionally, core components of gameplay/combat are hidden within a skill tree which has upgrade materials that are extremely scarce until late game The skill tree is also inaccessible until about 1/4 through the game and cannot be viewed unless you're in the game's hub area. The ability to respec is not accessible until 2/3 through the game, so if you've not unlocked those core gameplay mechanics, you're stuck without them until you unlock respec.
Finally, the weapon upgrade system needs some work. For example, if you alter a weapon handle, then decide to change how it's altered, you use a rare item to remove the first alteration. This permanently destroys both the first alteration rare item, and the reset rare item. These items are already precious, and this makes the player not want to use any of them for fear of wasting them on what they deem "not a good weapon" It also limits how the player can mix and match weapons and playstyles.

Rating:
Environment & Ambiance: 7/10
Level Design: 7/10
Music: 8/10
Mob Design & Function: 7/10
Boss Design & Function: 6/10
Upgrade System: 4/10
Material Availability: 4/10
Combat: 6/10
Plot: 6/10
OVERALL: 6/10 a beautiful, & fun game with frustrating points and some much needed improvements.

This game was fantastic. The gameplay was unique. The story was very intriguing, and for those who love horror/survival games, I definitely recommend it. The only downside was that it was very repetitive. Enter an area, fight some baddies, complete objective, repeat. Other than that, though, it's awesome.
