challenging yet very fun

I think the game is just very misunderstood right now.

For now use a controller and don't take too many risks, you start off pretty weak but you do eventually get powerful. I'm a big fan of spamming flash steps, it's fun and does good.

Even if you die 4 times and lose your run you will still make progress, check out some of the other reviews on how to play.

I'm really enjoying what's out now and excited to see what will come next.

In short: Incredible atmosphere, a little wonky but with so much potential.

In its current state it's still pretty rough around the edges yet I still really enjoy it. Definitely at least keep an eye on this if you're curious. Right now the AI are relatively braindead & movement can be a bit janky; feels like we're missing some aspects of movement too. Be prepared to encounter some enemies with very rudimentary animations. Considering this, visually the game is incredibly polished; outside of some animations everything looks really rad. Gunplay in general fun & the customization of guns is neat though still a bit unfinished (there are some placeholders).

The timed water mechanic is not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. Playing with a pal we got him 15 days worth of water without even trying in under 2 hours (this is including plenty of drunken distractions). We were just having fun & doing quests, I've been sitting at 50+ days worth of water for a while now with plenty in reserve. I don't mind having to play this game at least once in the next 50 days, I certainly want to do that regardless of the water incentive.

Being said I get why people are frustrated, at the very least you could easily get a week's worth of water in at most 30 minutes if you're really gunning for it (probably faster). Take that however you will, I consider it to be a filter for game journalists.

god I love drinkin' & flyin'

crimson skies + a bit of mario sunshine packaged in a neat lil' brewery-bar simulation, check out the demo if that sounds intriguing to you

there are some bugs though the devs are working on it & are very responsive (especially considering this was made by a two man team)

Truly the Most Innovative™ game released in 2023.

Bethesda has once again redefined what it means to be a triple-A game by showing just how low the bar can go. Somehow they've managed to turn a game & genre with infinite potential into one of the most boring slogs possible. You may not like it, but that is what true innovation looks like folks. Todd "Godd" Howard you've done it again, thank you for swindling me out of my money and selling me a glorified loading screen simulator.

Interesting game with promise, but in need of some tuning. I've seen some other reviewers mention this and I agree with the sentiment; it feels like the devs slapped a bunch of game mechanics together without actually understanding what makes those mechanics work in the first place. The roguelite elements feel very underwhelming and offer little variety to runs or incentive to keep going. The combat feels awkward, everything has forced movement. You cannot attack while standing in place with any weapon, even the bow (of which feels absolutely terrible to use). The survival/crafting aspect of the game is fine in theory, but in practice it just adds a layer of gathering tedium to each run that ultimately hinders the experience as a whole. Equipment durability is a constant annoyance and waste of time, which wouldn't be an issue if you weren't literally on the clock 24/7 in this game. The game revolves around a day-night cycle where you gather resources during the day and protect your village from waves of enemies at night. There is no option to pause, not even in single-player. The pacing this creates causes the game feel less like an "epic action-survival RPG" and more like a frantic rush for resources with mediocre tower-defense moments in between. With some slight adjustments and balancing, I believe the game could be in a much better state, though I have some suspicions that its core design concepts might just be fundamentally flawed. I don't really know about all that, but what I do know is that I can't recommend this game as it currently stands.

Also, regarding the in-game store: it's basically the same business model Fall Guys uses, which isn't all that bad. Pretty much all cosmetics, anything that isn't requires a currency that is only obtained through completing runs (à la crowns in Fall Guys). The other premium currency that can be bought can also be obtained for free in-game. I don't really think this is too big of a deal, especially considering there are cosmetics that are not in the shop and need to be unlocked to use.

Regarding the battlepass: it's free and simply just the model they've chosen to deliver seasonal content. There's no premium track, and I don't think this is much of a big deal either.

Honestly, I cannot recommend this game unless you're like me and absolutely desperate for some Armored Core action; though even in that regard, this is a bad Armored Core game.

Daemon X Machina is all style and no substance in just about every regard. I really feel that it suffers from the fact that it was initially designed as a Nintendo Switch title, as I imagine that severely hampered the scale of the game overall. Battle arenas are in general pretty small and repetitive. Combat is okay, though it feels slower than some of the more recent AC titles. The story is frustratingly linear and talks way too much; at multiple points in the game an enemy will become invulnerable simply because they haven't finished their long-winded diatribe. In addition to this, the game is especially grindy. Everything is expensive and certain blueprints require the blessing of RNG, of which can be a cruel and fickle god. I stuck around hoping things would open up, as it seemed like there would be some sort of faction-alignment system eventually, but I was ultimately left disappointed.

I really wanted to love this game, or at least like it. Sadly I can't even say that I enjoyed it. Were it still possible I'd opt for a refund. If you're an AC fan, odds are it'll disappoint you too. If you just want some b-list anime mecha action, maybe this game is for you.

The most thrilling sportslike experience to ever grace Steam. As a man who often dreams of mounting my fellow sports-friends, this game is a dream come true.

10/10, a must have for sports enthusiasts worldwide.
