The Fight Club of low budget eastern European computer entertainment. It's been over 10 years and this game won't leave me alone- it's like some kind of brain poison. I still refuse to believe this game exists and yet here it is, somehow even more busted than the fan translated release. Saves seem to be broken completely for me, even quicksaves. No amount of youtuber coverage or memes can do this game justice.

Glad to see this mod getting mainstream recognition. I'll still never watch that video essay though.

This is a great homage to Blood with it's own original flair, but it has some problems. First off, the game struggles to maintain 60 FPS at 2560x1440 even with shadows turned down to minimum on my i9 3080, but your mileage may vary and I'm not gonna hold that against the game. My main complaints are the sounds, which have been bitcrushed to match the voxel and pixel aesthetics. While it may seem novel at first, the bitcrushing gets old VERY fast, and makes guns and such sound way less impactful. It also ruins a lot of the music, as it cuts a lot of the bass out of these droning ambient tracks that could otherwise be very good. I just don't understand the decision to make the sounds so crispy. Blood and other Build Engine games had low-res audio, sure- but it all sounded clean and had a great range. Caleb's voice was deep, the shotgun felt heavy to fire, and the cultist screams were clear and crisp.

Other than my gripes with the audio, the game is great. While it may appear as "Blood 2", Cultic has its own unique gameplay with a bit slower, slightly stiffer movement when compared to Blood, but a greater focus on accurate gunplay with reloads and headshots unify the movement and level design and it all comes together perfectly. All I could ask for in the gameplay department. The lever action rifle is especially great, and probably the best feeling and functioning repeater I've used in an FPS. Here's hoping we get voice acting for the protagonist eventually. It would be cool to have an actual character to stand alongside Caleb and the likes.

A pretty cool Dark Souls 2 sequel where you get to fight huge dragons, powerful swordsmen, and very janky netcode. Nobody's remotely detonated my computer yet so they may have fixed the RCE issues that cropped up in Dark Souls 3, so that's good I guess.
