Low content, insane diffculty spike, dead MP...

I preordered the collector edition way back when the game was announced. When it finally came out, the 2nd season pass (which of course was neither announced or included at the time) was annonuced and came out the same day. I basically felt like the developer gave PC players a MAJOR middle finger.
Story mode is bad. You are forced to play against all odds with characters you might not like or play well with, completely blocking you from progressing.
Music and sound effect are non-existant. Graphics are meh.
And then you got the arcade mode... where the final boss basically just grab you through your own attack, cancel your attacks, is invincible to megazords... The game basically cheat to give you a "challenge:".
If you are a fan of fighting games or power rangers... move on. You will only find anger and sorrows here.

This game is absolutely beatiful. And I<m not just talking about the graphics.
The atmosphere is great, the gameplay mechanics, while simple, are amazing.
Truly something else.

Just finished the game on veteran difficulty. Therefore I think i can say I experienced the bulk of what the game has to offer to a "normal" player (I.E. one that isn't masochist enough to try this on ultra hard without saves).

Pro: Great graphics, good story.

Cons: Steep learning curve, high difficulty at the beggining, RNG can screw you up for no reasons at times (missing a 99% shot hurts)

The vanilla game is a little too hard for my taste, but if you get the DLC as part of the collection, it<s fine. If anything, you become quite OP by midgame. The wrath of the chosen DLC also add a great deal of depth with the covert missions, that make you feel like you are actuyally managing a global rebellion, and not just saving the world on your own.

If you expect an easy experience, move along. If you are ready to fail, and lose units in which you invested (permadeath is a thing in this game), but embrace reward strategic thinking and exilarating moments of triumph, this game is for you. Just make sure you dont get the base game only.

Early Access Review
EDIT:

Turns out this game was a complete scam. The developpers put the game on a "indefinite hiatus" after giving what they believe was "the full promised gamne experience". Stay away from this game, or any game from this team.

Original review

Review in early access, will update as the game gets closer to release.

First thing first: I backed the game on kickstarter a few years back. I have been eargerly waiting for it to be released, and signed up for what i knew would be a comparatively small game (at 20$, you can't expect a HUGE triple A game). As everything on kickstarter, i even wondered if the game were to be released at all. The fact that we got something is a good indicatioon there is hope for the game.

On with the review.

The Good:
* Beautifull graphics, the dino models are very realistic, the texture are gorgeous and the animations fluid. The visitors also look good, and the different buildings, while rather generic, looks ok. The plant life and smaller details (fences, grass etc) also are quite convincing.
* The game run very smoothly. I got an I5 4690 with a gtx 950 2go and i am experiencing buttery smooth framerates. For an early access game, it's very nice to see optimization already being implemented (*cough* ARK *cough*)
* Dynamic Dino Growth. The creatures start as baby and grow to adult size as time goes. Pretty neat!

The bad:
* Not exactly what we were promised at first. There is basically only 2 pre-build venues, and very little in the way of variety to create your own. This is early access tho, and I am fairly confident more things will come with upcoming updates (fences, more blocks etc)

*The Ugly:
* The game is completly barebone. No management, no staff, no way to track guest need/wants etc. Dino A.I. is implemented (they move as herds, herbivores will kill baby carnivors, Carnivores will hunt herbivores...) but is rather rudimentary so far.
*UI. It doesn't need to be redesign, it needs to be implemented. Period.

Overall, I'd say that as is, the game is more of a tech demo or Alpha than a beta/early access. Their is potential for greatness here, and you can easely see the passion that went into creating the dino; but everything else have been overlooked (so far) Here is to hope the developpers will see their project to the end and deliver a great Tycoon experience.

In conclusion, this is a very rough first draft of the game. If you go in expecting a AAA title, polished and finished, in the same vein as Planet Coaster right off the gate, you will be sorely disapointed. If you go in expecting the fondation of a game showing a whole lot of potential, and are ready to wait for the game to grow. You will find an interresting little dino simulator. Just keep your expectation in check and/or wait for the game to be further along in development.

The game itself is addictive but the matchmaking, community and microtransactions are horrible. I can't recommend buying the game as is.

Early Access Review
For those of you that dont want to read everything: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

For those of you that do, here is why.

I purchased the game a little over a year ago. I knew what i was getting into; it was early access and i was prepared to deal with the bug, lack of optimisation etc, as the game would slowly morph into a complete and -hopefully- polish product.
However, as time went buy, it became clear that the developper were getting tired of their own project. The content was getting delayed more and more often, communication was getting worst and worst, and deadline became a running joke amoung the community.
The game was supposed to be released in June. That time passed, and the developper asked for more time to finish the game - which is fine. However, instead of working on the product we bought, they started working on side projects. First survival of the fittest; which was ok as it was basically a free, extensive demo of the pvp of the game.
But now, they released a DLC. A paid DLC. Which basicaly means that the developpment of the game is over, and this isn't alpha anymore but retail.

And as a full retail game, that thing is horrible. Years old game breaking bugs are still not fixed, content is lacking, long promised features are still not implemented (and probably never will be); Optimisation is inexistant, and getting worst with each update.
The online servers fall into 2 categories: official, mostly full of alpha tribes, that spend their time griefing newcomers, that claimed the best land and already control all the strategic points, that are basicaly unplayable; and unofficial, that usually are run by either a small group of cheaters, or well meaning people that end up giving up because of the cost and time involved in getting a server up and running (and often plagued with an overabbondance of mods).

I cannot stress this enough: this game COULD have been a masterpiece. But as it is now, its just a gigantic wasted opportunity. It is clear that this game is, at best going the way many alpha went: abandonned by a dev team that is moving on to bigger and better things.

EDIT: I already couldn't recommend the game for 30$, but 60$? the games clearly is NOT worth that much! Unless some major optimisation and upgrade are done to many component (Wildlife AI, geometry, texture, models, collision etc...) this game is a rip off for full price.
Also, be prepare to have a HUGE chunk of your HDD used by the game. Currently sitting at 120 GB and counting...
