The description is a lie. There is no other way to put it. You cannot save the world in this game, because it is not a complete story but rather the first part of one, and as of now no other parts have been released. False advertising should not be tolerated.

On a side note, why does everyone suddenly want to kiss me after I dance with them, despite me not showing a single hint of romantic or sexual attraction to anyone for the entire adventure? The whole party sequence is like an ace torture chamber. You try to have fun with your friends and they all suddenly W A N T Y O U. The absurdity of the situation at least let me laugh about it a bit but it really was uncomfortable.

I got it for cyborg bullet hell tomfoolery. I finished it because the story is as wide as a rain puddle and as deep as the Mariana Trench. A single line of text in Picayune Dreams carries more meaning than every game Bethesda has released in the last decade.

If turning yourself into an anthropomorphic weapons platform in your quest to find out who you are and what you really care about sounds like a fun time to you then get this game immediately.

It's not a test of skill, it's a test of patience. I have seriously never played a worse metroidvania. On the surface it feels like an awesome contribution to the genre. The controls are tight, the story seems intriguing, so you keep playing because you feel like you SHOULD like this, that at some point it has to get good because it reminds you of all the other games you like. It doesn't. For someone who enjoys this sort of game browsing through Steam and finding Sundered is like searching in the grass for your lost frisbee and accidentally picking up an armed landmine.

It's not like I wasn't warned. I saw the negative reviews. I read what they had to say and I got the game anyway because I assumed they were exaggerating. Please. Do not repeat my mistake. Do not subject yourself to this. You do not deserve to be subjected to this.

I often play roguelikes to relax. I find that the lack of permanent consequences and the general quickness of the genre lends itself really well to creating a stimulating but ultimately stress-free experience.

Why am I telling you this?

There is no denying that Backpack Hero is well designed and generally entertaining, but unlike a lot of other roguelikes it's not relaxing in any way. Not for me, at least.

Runs don't really "flow". You have to keep rotating and moving stuff in your backpack, deciding which items you want to keep, which items you want to throw away, which items you want to upgrade, what to buy or sell at the merchant, etc. You spend way more time managing your build than you do actually using it in fights. Once I finish a run I often feel exhausted rather than motivated to try another.

That being said, the question Steam asks when you're writing a review isn't "Would you recommend this game to yourself?" It's "Would you recommend this game to other players?"

And my answer is yes. If strategic inventory management with a side of turn-based combat sounds like a fun time to you then I definitely recommend giving Backpack Hero a try.

If you're like me, however, and prefer to enjoy your roguelikes with a Josh Strife Hayes video on your second monitor and a cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate on your desk, I recommend looking elsewhere.

I bought this game on sale at 80% of its price. After beating it, I can say its quality definitely matched what I paid. Bot Vice makes a great first impression. The pixel art is awesome, and the story, at least at the beginning, is lighthearted and fun with some mystery. The default control scheme isn't very good, but easily changed.

Issue is, the more you progress, the worse the game gets. The story goes from whimsical but surprisingly interesting to utter nonsense, and then has the audacity to end with a cliffhanger and post-credits scene teasing a sequel I have no faith in. The gameplay does not fare better. The auto-aim is complete garbage and will usually target whatever you least want to target. Late game enemies have massive health bars, and take far too long to kill to be satisfying. Enemies with shields block your bullets unless you stand there and wait for them to start shooting before you fire back, in a game that's supposed to be fast. The worst level in the game is in the final zone where four statues have health bars larger than some bosses and flood the entire room with slow-moving projectiles, accompanied by basically every other enemy type capable of laying down large amounts of suppressing fire or exploiting you being in cover.

By the time you reach the end Bot Vice has good pixel art, alright music, and literally nothing else going for it.

If it's on sale for at most 70% of its price, and you really like the retro sci-fi pixel art style and fast-paced games like I do, then I'd say go for it. Otherwise, save your time and skip this one. Even I have no intention of coming back for the sequel they teased.

My hands hurt from having to press every button on my controller at least once for each frame of gameplay.

I'm pretty sure I sweat less than this when doing actual sports.

The game is really fun though so I can't stop.

Please help.

Shout-out to all the wise rulers I helped onto the throne.

If you have no clue what I'm talking about, I won't tell you. There's gotta' be at least a bit of challenge, right?

Here's a hint, if you insist; Some gain it through love, others through fear, and the best through both. Regardless of their methods, all rulers must find a way to gain control.

The lady with the chainsaw arm, Yuki, is technically a magical girl. Let me elaborate;

> Gets powers from an entity that later turns out to be evil .
> Uses weapons that are archaic, impractical, or implausible.
> Finishes her enemies with flashy, over-dramatic attacks.
> Does not wear clothing usually appropriate for a combat situation. (No armor, no shoes.)
> Casts flashy magical spells.
> You might say that she has no transformation sequence, but I'd argue that the beginning of the game is her transformation sequence. She just doesn't transform back for the rest of the game.

You know I'm right.

Anyway, this is one of the best action games I've ever played.

It's like Ruiner and Salt and Sanctuary fused into a delightfully edgy monstrosity. The combat is a fast-paced bloodbath set to the kind music that gets you accused of devil worship by people who still use Facebook. You choose from one of two characters that make Sonic OCs look saccharine by comparison, then use a variety of weapons along with powers like t u r n i n g i n t o b l o o d to tenderize your enemies until they're soft enough for you to brutally execute.

Combos exist, and you can certainly memorize them and attempt to strategically use them, or you can do what I did and roleplay as that one missile the American army made that has no explosives inside and instead just has several swords attached to it. (I'm not joking, look up "knife missile".)

If you too are a student of the prestigious Rocket-Propelled Chainsaw School of Martial Arts I recommend playing on a controller and rebinding the buttons you most commonly use to the bumpers and triggers (I had attack on RB, heavy attack on RT, grab on LB, and magic on LT.) so you can attack without lifting your thumb off the right stick (Which is used for dashing/blood warp.), allowing you to easily alternate between tearing into people and dodging their counterattacks.

I usually get frustrated when I die in games, but in this one I'm just happy to hear more of the awesome soundtrack and coat the level in more chunky salsa. I really don't know what else to say about Vampire Smile. Do you think those square-shaped, four-stringed medical eye-patches are cool? Does your Spotify playlist sound like your music taste stopped changing by your 14th birthday? Do you like violence? If your answer to at least two of those questions is yes, you'll probably like this game.
