Sorry, but I would not recommend this game. Maybe in years when the price is $20-30. It is NOT an AAA game by any means. The game is boring and not very fun. I can't bring myself to play it other than for the fact that I wasted money and went past the return window.

The combat is interesting but is clunky and not challenging, just punishing. You either hack and slash away with a sword while getting chipped to death, or you try to play stealth, magic, or an alternative weapon that seems like the game doesn't want you to play. There's tons of unique weapon types to try, but when everything just handicaps you compared to a sword and shield, there really isn't any point in it. Magic gameplay specifically seems to really suck when every enemy targets you and interrupts you so you can't cast anything. And by that point you probably ran out of magic that doesn't even rejuvenate causing you to have to switch to a sword and shield gameplay anyway.

The story is boring because the lore is boring and the world is boring making it a slog to go through. They dump paragraphs and paragraphs of text on you which would be interesting if you cared about the world at all. Your choices don't seem to affect much of anything and nobody seems to exist for any reason other than to be a talking head for quests. Half the people all look exactly the same so much so that I can't remember anybody's name because they are all irrelevant after you finish their quest. Followers are literally just that. You meet person, they apparently have no life or anything else going on so they join you and then at the end they are like "well, got nothing else going on why don't I join you" and follow you for all eternity.

The character creator that everyone was in a tizzy about them including pronouns in is literally not even an issue, you can even ignore that option completely. What is inexcusable and nobody mentions is how limited and bad the character creator is. The options are severely limited. The whole game centers around you being "godlike" and having strange markings or indications that you are so, but they literally have 4 options for you to choose from. They all look stupid. You can have a tree stump beehive on your head, a mushroom that covers up your characters' face completely, weird sparkles that don't even look like musghrooms in any way and one other option. That's it. You would think they would put more options in the character creator for the core feature of the game. There's a good selection of hairstyles but everything else, including skin color, is very limited, and I daresay even just a really bad editor. The way you combine "pieces" to decide on a nose shape or something is very unique but the way it is implemented in the character creator is just... bad. Confusing and not intuitive to use, and hard to end up with a good result.

The graphics are stunning at some points but then horrible at others. The weird mushroom aesthetic seems like it could have been done in the style of Morrowind or something but is instead something else and looks not foreign just amateurish.

It sucks that this was advertised as such a big game and it cost so much but then it was shallow and underwhelming. If you are buying this expecting the level of the Outer Worlds, you have a a grave disappointment on your hands so I would strongly not recommend it for that. If you just want to hack and slash your way through the cool loot system and don't really care about a good story or characters or world building, then this may be for you.

I played Monster Hunter Worlds when it first came out. This one seems a bit more streamlined and fun. The graphics are really nice. I started getting sick of the dead lobbies on the old game, so I am looking forward to having some fellow monster hunters to play with.

There tutorials SUCK they sort of dump things on you and there is no explanation. There is no good guides on weapons, arguably the most important thing of this game. There is a lot of complication and the game is not very helpful at all in that regard.

I'm having a good time with it, but be warned that you cant really just pick a weapon and hack and slash your way to victory, it takes a lot of skill. It's also not even possible to block with some weapons, so the combat is far different from Elden Ring in a lot of ways.

FANTASTIC, ENGAGING, ENTERTAINING, CHALLENGING, and STUNNING. I can't give this game more props. It is wonderful in every way. Wholly improved and refined from the first game, the game is going to really take time to play through because I will enjoy every minute of it.

NOTE the performance is AMAZING BUT it is hampered by one glaring technical issue which apparently is just an NVIDIA card issue, the fix is easy and you can google it, but before the fix I was having cutscenes WAY out of sync and getting like 10 fps (during cutscenes only) but after the fix I am happy to say it is all good now.

Game is a great faithful update to the older game. So far everything is just as I remember it and the improvements that have been added are welcome additions, so far nothing bad. This is one of the best.

I hope next they will work on one of the games we never could try easily like Tales of Innocence or something. I feel like Xillia has definitely got to be coming up too.

The graphics look horrible and many times there are words that dont register. I got this game for free as I would never play this kind of game normally because I HATE these kinds of puzzles mainly for that reason that I always find words that it says are not words and then I question myself and look it up on line and learn it is indeed a word and the game is just badly coded and then I quit out of frustration.

I was able to finally get it working so I can play through this game in the hope of the coming of the second one. But I had such frustration and so many things to try and get it working that nobody should have to jump through that many hoops.

I was getting 5fps in cutscenes but then 120+ in the rest of the game, I made so many changes and game restarts to finally get it working now, There is something fundamentally wrong with a game that has bad optimization and the developers don't care enough to fix it.

Overall this game is really hackey but it is endearing. As you can see by my playtime I played it a long time ago, and am now coming back to it and its like a whole new game again. It is charming but also not the most polished. I hope the second game will be better at all of the above.

For the moment, I am enjoying the quirkiness and haven't run into any major gameplay issues yet.

This is an outstanding game with interesting and unique gameplay mechanics that stand up surprisingly well 15 or so years from its release. Made fresh again with enhanced graphics and sound, the game was absolutely beautiful back on the Gamecube and the new HD visuals certainly aren't no Unreal Engine level beauty but a distinctive and beautiful style that mixes 3D renderings, 2D backgrounds, and animations with brilliant lighting effects.

The story is incredible, the graphics are stunning, the characters are memorable, there is some player choice which can dramatically affect the ending of the game with multiple endings, as well as diversions through the story based on an affinity system between the player and the main character. And again some very unique gameplay elements including the Magnus card system, a durability/time decay system, leveling progression, as well as interesting sidequests and puzzles that aren't just "go fetch this" and line up these statues in a certain way. (Although there are some of those, it wouldn't be a JRPG without, right?)

Those of us who are fans of this series are used to it being Bamco's hated step-child since the beginning so it should come as no surprise that they dropped the ball in some respect and in this case, there is NO ENGLISH AUDIO. That's right, the base game has no audio choices. However, there is an easy tutorial here on how to download the Switch game file (which does have english audio) and replace one folder in the game folder and everything works the same with the exception of ONE early cutscene where it gets out of sync. The Japanese voice actors are great but for nostalgia, many of us grew up with the English voices. I promise even the most technically inept can follow the community guide and do it with no problem, but its just another stopping block Bamco puts in place to wall people off from this adventure.

Back in the day, Baten Kaitos was hated on for its card battle mechanic, which at the time was something a lot of games were doing, but absolutely not in the same way. There is a story reason for "Magnus Cards" and the battle system is entirely unique working sort of like a Real Time Battle system with attacking and dodging but played out with cards, luck, and RNG, thrown in. It is NOT a card battler, which is a marketing label that Bamco never cared to disperse, the cards are essentially just a menu for your battle commands.

I highly recommend this game, not just out of nostalgia but as an incredible must-experience game for RPG and JRPG fans. Go into the game expecting that it is a slightly dated story-driven game with an easy-to-pickup but hard-to-master unique combat system and you will be guaranteed a great time.

Update 1: Best summary of this game is its what Dragon Age would be if Ubisoft made it. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but this plays very much like an Ubisoft game in many aspects to me.

Original Review:

I'm only 3 hours in and 2 of those were in character creation. The game as a whole seems like an 8 or 9/10, (I will update with a better score as I play more) but the game as a Dragon Age title is a 2/10.

Gone are the branching storylines and difficult choices from the previous titles -instead is a linear storyline right up front. Pointless is importing history from the past games -you can bring over a character for some reason which isn't revealed, but its pointless since half those character customization options are missing in The Veilguard so your Inquisitor will never look nearly the same. There is only one plot point to choose from, disregarding the entire history of Dragon Age and the entire custom world that we had all built. No longer do characters have personalities where you can talk with them on your adventures, instead they are plot points and cutscene accompaniment, and combat helpers.

Gameplay is fun and fresh but it bares no resemblance to the games of the past other than a few characters and loose concepts. And that's a real shame. It's not an evolution or a revolution of Dragon Age, not even a reboot. It's just they took the name and threw a completely different game into the mix which is really disappointing. Instead of refining on the things that people liked about Dragon Age Origins (story, characters, choices) Dragon Age 2 (combat, graphics) and Inquisition (mission structure and locales) they just trashed it all and slapped the name on this game.

Also have to mention the graphics are great for scenery but the characters look like cartoons, and seeing old characters reimagined in this style is honestly laughably comically bad.
