Early Access Review
Recent changes, including having doors open and the player get swarmed or like 40 zombies just spawning in out of nowhere, have basically ruined the experience for me. What happened to stealth and tactics? Zombies can't even open doors, but step foot past a point and they will and be aggro'd.

Fantastic game. Reminds me of the hours I sank into the original oh so many years ago.

This is not ready. I could not even complete the tutorial. No amount of clicking would connect sewage. I had to close and restart the game and it finally worked. There are so many other issues. I liked the first Cities Skylines which is the only reason I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt right now. I don't think I've ever refunded a game on steam but, were it not for liking the first game, this would be one. Don't buy it now; it is not ready at all in my opinion.

I vote no at full price, but it might be worth it to you at 67%+ off.

There are so many UI/UX issues in here. Item comparisons not working properly, text covering each other up, lag in trying to tag favorites/trash that will instead change whatever is under the mouse if the mouse moves (I lost some good items until I discovered I had accidentally marked things I wanted to keep as trash because of that click lag), and still more issues.

Normally, I'd want to immeidately start a play-through with a different playstyle or try to 100% all of the areas. This time, when I finished the story, I put it down and haven't picked it back up again.

Some things also feel weirdly rushed or partially finished. This game has been out for well over a year and none of this has been addressed. That's disappointing, but expected for gearbox at this point.

It's got a couple of odd bugs here and there, but I've quite enjoyed this! It makes me fondly remember playing Baldur's Gate and such back in the day.

It's 2023 and there are still multiple, unpatched bugs and issues. I would expect more from Obsidian and will be avoiding their other releases for the foreseeable future.

There's fun to be had, but being locked out of various selections due to bugs (search the net for NTVUR, for one example) makes this a stupidly frustrating experience.

This is barely a recommendation for me. For being a couple of years old, it still has an unreasonable number of obvious bugs and quite a few annoyances. Audio playing every single time on load, subtitles missing and wrong, UI elements that aren't correct, prompts to press tab to see something that just open a menu with no explanation, etc. I've also had numerous audio glitches (sounds not playing at all, wrong sounds for guns (fixed by exit and restart), etc.)

This is the first borderlands game I haven't, and almost certainly won't, complete all of the missions. There are some that are just boring slogs including one with no clear path over pits that, when wrong, just causes the mission to fail and start over with a bunch of boring monsters and standing at crystals waiting around for something. I've been more frustrated falling off of the map in places that look accessible or have no real clear path than in any other borderlands.

The main story's writing is probably the worst of any Borderlands game. I don't know if that's because things were cut or what, but the pacing is super weird sometimes and the story loves to build up and then let down with some weird, rushed mess. I really hope there was content cut that made it so disjointed sometimes. There are some things that are probably meant as foreshadowing or hints, but they come with all of the subdlety of a sledgehammer to the face basically spoiling parts of the story.

I do like some of the new mechanics and the lost loot thing (especially since I just had two legendaries fall right off the map after a hard fight... whose quest failed when I went back to home base to check the lost loot for those). That definitely doesn't make up for the other things and this definitely isn't my favorite borderlands game.

That said, there is looting and shooting to kill the time, but be prepared for bugs, frustrations, and sub-par story along the way... even for a borderlands game. Not recommended because steam doesn't have a 'meh' rating. Play pre-sequal instead which I will probably go back to doing.

Note: my playtime is super high, but a good chunk of that is leaving it running in the background for hours and hours. I still do probably have over 100 hours because I was trying to get all the story and dialogue.

This is a fantastic and fun game. My only major complaint is a single crash to desktop after a large number of hours (the candy-themed dungeon as the ghost, in case any dev is reading these, but I don't have much other detail). For a minor complaint, some things can be a bit grindy and trying to accomplish some things to get to S-tier can be annoying, especially at higher levels (at least so far 31 hours in). Otherwise, I basically can't put it down!

I would not buy this at full price. At a steep discount, I'm still fairly neutral on the thing. I will update later, but this is a list I've made less than a third of the way through the game. This doesn't even touch on the bond-villain-level-incompetence of some of the antagonists, and the downright magic in use.

Blow-darted... whilst in progress in a mission and in a helicopter with my companion
Kidnapped in other riduculous circumstances
helicopter flew itself away. Blew up when I cought it and jumped in.
Found some big mansion. Got teleported out of my helicopter (which exploded into the ground) and put elsewhere. There are many better ways to handle that (one of the very few times I would actual argue for an invisible wall).
Various quests broken since, based on posts online, launch (dr in a jail, for example).
Cannot interact with pumps or other objects despite being dead in front of them
Cannot interact with NPCs sometimes despite being dead in front of them (not when [in combat] is displayed)

I'm not the biggest fan of rogue-likes, but I've had quite a bit of fun with this one. Definitely recommend.
