The best retro collection on steam bar none, now delisted. While the emulation wasn't the best esp. in the audio accuracy, it offered uncompressed ROMs without any encryption or extra layers of drm. Just an affordable way to legally own a decent romset of your own pick on steam and beyond, not to mention workshop for those who preferred its ease of use. The old must make way for new, etc. So thanks Sega, truly.

A bit of trivia:
Q: Why was it delisted on 9th instead of 6th as officially announced?
A: Because if you squint hard enough all the way from Japan, 9 looks just like 6! :slscream:

Very unconventional first-person story-driven horror action adventure from hell, including stealth (hide & seek with your favourite demons), combat (various demons that you can later posses have different attacks/abilities), lots of exploration with well hidden secrets and collectables, all set in brutal yet oddly alluring rendition of hell.

Pros:
  • Overall unique design, both of environment and characters. Unrated version should be praised alone for staying true to the original vision with little to no compromises in regards to censorship.
  • Thick atmosphere, especially during your first playthrough. Game doesn't rely on cheap jumpscare-gallore. However the horror aspects are done well, so even non-horror fans can enjoy it. Heck even I can play it in dark room at night with headphones - that ought to speak for itself! ;)
  • Interesting story told through cutscenes as you progress through the levels and sidestory in the form of notes/letters scattered around + unlockable extras in the main menu.
  • Replayability - game has numerous endings and 2 extra game modes. Succubi mode offers different playstyle and can access routes which are otherwise out of reach for our poor Martyr.
  • No handholding, very minimalistic "HUD" that can be turned off - all to improve your immersion. You as players are trusted by the dev/designer to figure things/rules in hell on your own by observing.
  • Sound/music/voiceovers compliment the game well.
  • Made in UE4 with decent in-game options, but you can also tweak a lot of additional parameters in .ini files.
  • Met a martyr in hell who was clearly a fan of StarWars. Subtle nods here and there to the mainstream titans.

Cons:
  • No handholding also meaning the game is not for everyone. Probably not a title you want to play to wind down after a day of hard work with your mind slipping elsewhere.
  • Some bugs still persist (overall regarding to collectables), however the game is being actively patched and improved by the devs.
  • Performance wise, I do get a slight stutter/minifreeze when the game loads another part of the level on the fly, despite having it on a ssd. I would very much welcome a native option to turn AA off completely to reduce the blur (you can do this via ini edit, but it introduces artifacts and shimmering).

Conclusion:
Agony Unrated is a pretty unique project, somewhat oldschool in its ways - which in combination with the themes depicted might not sit well with everyone involved. I would imagine some could even call it being anti-mainstream in its approach. However it reminds me of games made by Icepick lodge to some degree, it has that arthouse sublime feel to it, despite perhaps not being the most polished games ever. I only wish there were more games like these being made nowadays.

Fast action-platformer / frantic runner (if you allow it to be) in 80s-like neon cyberpunk world. Heavy focus on the story, featuring dozen of unique bosses, great soundtrack which really fits the visuals and cements the whole experience.
Kill everything, or skip enemies... blast through the stage at wicked speed or take it nice and steady - the choice is yours.

Pros:
  • Worth it for OST alone! Has both moody/dark tracks and some faster, playful ones. Comes as free dlc in flac and mp3.
  • Visuals paints the neo-city, memorable characters and overall cyberpunk vibe pretty well despite the low-res aesthetics.
  • Story & backstory which will keep you going and action which tries to introduces new elements with each stage.
  • Voiceacting, small details, subtle references, the apartment hub, arcade-like ranking of each stage, boss rush mode, etc.
  • Dev who really cares about the game! The following patches lead to much smoother experience & it keeps improving with minor tweaks and fixes even now.
...and the rest:
  • Game is clearly not for everyone. Also it does require something from the player (i.e. it doesn't play itself, nor it would progress by mashing buttons - throwing a tantrum won't help either). Full-time casuals might rather stick with the OST :)
  • Runs on AGS which is a feat on its own to make and run this genre on it this well imo. However that led to some limitations, workarounds and bugs early on (those are pretty much squashed by now though).
  • Minor gripe for me was that by streamlining the game in previous patches, some of the monologue/lines which I grew fond of, were cut short.

Really crazy cartoon beat-em-up that contains ton of movie and game references. Feels like watching saturday morning's cartoons 25years ago.

Also contains humour, even toilet one...no kidding on this one!

Gameplay itself is standard beat-em-up like Golden Axe or Double Dragon with addition of leveling up and collecting new weapons / familiars. It is designed mainly for co-op, albeit it is plagued by technical hindrances (poor performance of 1 user affects rest of the team unfortunately, either by lags or low framerate). It might get repetitive after a while.

Overall it offers solid fun for both casual (normal mode) and hardcore (insane mode) arcaders out there.

Golden age of point-and-click / text adventures might be gone, but this title brings you back to early 90's, when greatest classics were born. Primordia is pure 2D pixely adventure with unique art style, gripping story that will leave you thinking, great voiceacting (Logan Cunningham - Bastion) and atmosphere of dystopian future emanating from every single pixel. It should be noted that it shares couple of similarities with Beneath a Steel Sky, another great experience.

Any fan of classic point-n-clickery can't go wrong with this one, as it is one of the best in its genre available on Steam. However it might be a little bit too short if you follow only the most straightforward path and forget to explore the backstory, explore details and solve few optional puzzles.
