Steam totally has this!

go to your "Friends" window in Steam

look at your username @ the top
click the little upside down triangle next to your username
select "Offline"

This doesn't turn off steam, just makes you appear offline in the Chat to friends

hey dude if you wanna appear offline just press in the bottom right corner your icon, then click on the little triangle just right of your name and select offline, hope i helped (u can play online without your friends knowing ;3 )

You may suck at games, but not all games.
