Yes, bad decisions have been made. ♥♥♥♥♥♥, greedy, insidious, capitalistic decisions. Decisions that have driven employees to walk away from their passion. Decisions that made me think I would never play again unless certain things changed.

~~ AND ~~

The game is free. The game is still fun. You can still hop on alone or with friends and have a great time. Boycott by not spending money if you want, but the game can still be worth playing for free as long as you are enjoying it.

If you don't like constant time-pressure, not for you. Otherwise, quite enjoyable to explore all the different weapon, mining, upgrade, and modifier options.

Made with love. Or maybe it's rage and existential dread. Either way it's free so you've got nothing to lose.

This is a must-play. It's a slow burn, but Crosscode might be the most underrated title I've ever had the joy of experiencing. If you think you'll like upgrading gear, meaningful skill trees, fun characters, and a mix of combat and puzzles that each require a good bit of thought and dexterity (there are settings to tune this difficulty to your liking), you absolutely cannot let this game pass you by.

Has a learning curve, but it's really fun. Best sound design of any game I've ever played.

Depressingly underplayed for such a polished fighting game with an innovate (albiet, in-progress) story and great tutorials (I've seen more than one Guilty Gear Strive players state that this game has better combo training than Strive). The devs seem to be truly passionate and have recently secured additional funding to take the game to consoles soon, with crossplay!

Not great at writing reviews so I will post some things that I like about the game from Wisely's "What you need to know before playing Rivals of Aether" YouTube video, and I will add more of my own thoughts later on.
- You can wavedash, and it's easier than other games.
- The game has a very strong, unique identity, from the elemental themes, to how the gameplay feels.
- There is a large focus on movement and spacing. Every character has some sort of stage control technique, usually tied to their element.
- Additionally, there is no shielding. However, there is a parry and if if done successfully gives you a huge opening.
- There is no ledge-grabbing, however each character can wall jump and then use their recovery a second time. This makes off-stage play and ledge guarding much more interesting.
