It's good, I enjoyed the story and content, I finished every quest, but the game feels incomplete and doesn't have what it needs for people to keep returning to play endlessly, like what the first game had.

I'd recommend getting the game on sale, it's worth a play, but once you finish all the story stuff, you kind of run out of content, unless you enjoy replaying everything in new game plus.

It needs more repeatable quests and endgame content. Give us that endless dungeon crawl and some more repeatable quests like the escort missions, because for me the main appeal is adventuring with my party and those mindless repeatable quests give me an excuse to do so without having to catch myself up with a story that I've already played through. The first game had that appeal with its endless dungeon dlc and dragon fights, so I was able to return to play it endlessly.

There are a couple of major issues that need addressing before full release. Some aspects of the gameplay also make it clear that I’m not the intended audience, and I wouldn’t be able to recommend it to most people. I've shared my thoughts below.

No region lock or language filter. This game relies heavily on coop, and constantly being matched with people I can’t communicate with is frustrating.

Zombie respawns are poorly balanced. They respawn too quickly and too close. After fully clearing an open area, I’ve turned around to see 5 zombies suddenly warp in. It breaks immersion and makes room clearing feel pointless, at least in the original game, it gave everyone some breathing room for a hot minute since new zombies could only spawn a good distance away. Spending the ammo/health/time to kill a zombie should not penalise you by then immediately spawning a healthy new zombie because the slot just freed up.

No difficulty settings or alternative modes. Missions are long (around an hour), with no shorter options. If I quit early, I lose my character and all their progress. I enjoy hard games, but sometimes I just want to relax, carry newer players, or multitask and watch a tv show. I would like adjustable difficulty or support for modded servers, like in the original game.

No character customization. You’re stuck with a randomly rolled character with random perks. That might work for some, but I prefer to build and invest in my characters. You also can’t delete characters, which leads to people suiciding at the start of missions, adding to the difficulty for everyone else.

Limited reward structure. Weapons or items bought in the menu only unlock for a single character (idek if they can be reused for multiple runs). It feels like a lot of effort for minimal payoff and risking your character's life just so they can afford a piece of rebar feels like a joke. It would be great if we could spend currency to revive old characters. Losing progress due to bad luck or a suiciding or uncommunicative team is discouraging, especially when solo extraction is a chore and often isn’t realistic.

Overall: The game offers little player agency. It’s built around a rigid vision that might appeal to some, but not to me. I prefer games where I can choose my difficulty, match with people who speak my language, customize my characters, and feel like progress is skill/effort based rather than largely dependent on dumb luck. When half the team dies before the first objective due to the pitfalls of random matchmaking, and there's no difficulty adjustment to reflect that, it just isn’t enjoyable. Game has a lot of potential, but whether it sticks to its current vision or broadens it after addressing the core issues determines whether I'd buy and recommend the game in future. If they added mod support, then 100% would buy, I extracted a lot of fun out of the original game with modded servers with respawn tokens, and it was more sustainable when reaching a checkpoint would revive dead players.

Fun humorous game with plenty of build variety and different spell combinations to play with. I have a lot of fond memories for both games and remember finding myself laughing when I died. Especially fun with friends, even if they're terrible/trolls.

Tons of bugs/crashes, poorly optimised. Feels like early access, except the price says otherwise. I enjoy it but I can't recommend it until it's fixed. Also uses nProtect for its anti cheat and game blocks AHK or any sort of macro, so anyone needing them for accessibility is out of luck.

This game was really fun but it was weird that they split the playbase between two versions of the same game with the same stories. I miss it though, it was a fun casual game unique enough that I kept it installed and picked it up again occasionally.

I remember just picking this up shortly before it announced its funeral. I remember it having solid gameplay foundations .-.

Plays like a mobile game (not necessarily bad, just not what I want as a PC gamer), there's no character appearance customisation, gender locked classes, all available characters are white so there's not much diversity from the get go which is kind of a red flag if you want interesting characters with unique backgrounds, you basically pick a stock character and play the game as that character instead of making your own (unlike in every previous torchlight iteration where we have been able to create our own characters). I couldn't get passed 30 minutes of play, maybe the story and characters get more interesting, maybe you can get appearance modifications, but it's just not for me. This is something I might've played if I was still a child/teen struggling to find fun free games that would run on whatever basic system I owned.

Story, voice acting, narrator, and freedom to roleplay your character however you like are all looking great, I had to stop myself playing more because I'm looking forward to the full release. The only notes I have are "more please" (I really want to play through the finished story) and "please let me edit my companions appearances too, canon be damned!"

Buyers beware of restrictions most likely imposed by censorship. From memory when I tried this game: there's no gender/sexuality diversity and no marriage options for female main characters. From what I remember, my male main character was immediately shoehorned into a heterosexual relationship with the very first lines of dialogue being about my characters plot-device wife, wasn't sure how I as a player was supposed to care about this character's wife that I had never even talked to or heard about (sorry but regardless of language/translations, that's not the best story writing and it made for a poor first impression that I decided not to push past). If none of what I mentioned bothers you then you might enjoy this game.

Amazing game, tons of different roleplaying/dialogue options, tons of classes, and ability to switch between turn based and real-time combat which is a major point of interest for me. I have always enjoyed dnd-esque games but often get bored by pure turn-based combat. My only gripe is that Kineticist doesn't have access to all metamagic options (specifically selective spell), and there are a few moments in the game that felt like they were missing an additional roleplaying option. There's mod support and mods that add metamagic to kineticists but I'm a little reluctant to install major mods that break saves when removed from the game.
