To cut to the point: Do you okay with being seeing another player means you need to drop everything you want to do in game EVERY TIME and there's no way to avoid it? If you do mind, then don't buy this game.Don't be fooled by the trailers and screenshot, the activity you get most in the game is PvP, whether you battling them or trying to run away from other players (which could tale a long time as there's minimal speed differences between ships and very long viewing distance).

The game has a lot of fun things to do. The graphics is nice and thematically fit. Sailing and managing the ship is more fun than any other games. Playing with friends to work together in same ship is fun. There are many activities to do. There are many puzzles delivered like what you expect from pirate movies. So why despite all that I still not recommending it? Because at it's core design, this is not a pirate game but more of forced PvP game. Sure fighting other players is optional but with how it goes, every time you're close enough with another ship it means they're going to murder you. The way the game designed really enables players who just want to bully other players. Peaceful players will learn quickly to not trust any ship and stay away if they see one. That means the only ship that willingly going after you 99% has the desire to kill you, even if you are newbie or don't have anything in the ship. Sadly this means it's almost impossible to have relaxing sailing experience or doing many of those other enjoyable activates in the game because the mere sight of other players in vicinity means you must drop whatever you doing and prepare to escape or engage them.

If you thinking you can play this game to relax and not going into conflict, you're wrong and as currently there's no way to avoid PvP. No safe zones, no PvE only mode, nothing. Even when doing story mode (tall tales) you're still open to being attacked by other players.. If you love the idea of fighting other players all the time, then you'll love this game.
