Arguably the best pirate game of all time. Maybe not the best 'Assassin's Creed' game, but certainly one of the best pirate games ever made.

The gameplay is split into two distinct halves. The regular 'Assassining' that this franchise is known for and sailing the open seas. The normal gameplay isn't anything to write home about, it's just an AC game. Sneaking, parkour, shanking some poor bastards, and sword combat, all staples of the AC franchise. The ship gameplay is definitely where this game shines, though. Whether it be calmly sailing the seas listening to your crew sing all kinds of shanties, or engaging in ship combat with a whole fleet of ships twice your size, it's really fun, especially the legendary ship fights. Missions (both side and main story) are hit or miss though. Some are the patented Ubisoft tailing missions while others can be a blast. I do have one main critique for the gameplay though, it's way too easy. Melee combat and stealth are comically easy and while ship combat can be difficult at first, after you get enough upgrades for your ship, you can mow down Man O' Wars like dust in the wind.

Exploring in black flag is a gamble. When it comes to exploring cities and main islands, it can be pretty fun to run around grabbing various collectibles and stabbing random guards. However, when it comes to the uncharted collectibles, jesus christ it is tedious and boring.

The story, at least in my opinion, is pretty good. There's plenty of twists and turns that make for an enjoyable experience. I won't spoil it, but Edward's story here is fun to go through blind.

Black flag also has a substantial amount of side content that have rewards I'm obligated to discuss. Assassination and Naval contracts are alright, they're usually quick so I don't have much to say. The Templar Hunts are like small sub stories and the Mayan Stelae are quick and easy puzzles which are both good. However, my favorite part of the side content is the legendary ships. There are four legendary ship battles in each corner of the map, and each battle brings a unique twist that challenges your ship skill to the fullest. They're easily the hardest parts of black flag and that's why I love them so much.

Last but not least is the music. The soundtrack is pretty good. I like most of the background tracks, but I love the shanties. The shanties are plentiful and have historically accurate lyrics. Best part of sailing the West Indies.

In all, play the game yourself. It's a good time, and you can probably formulate much more comprehensible opinions than me. And there's plenty of stuff I didn't cover that you can check out yourself. If you're looking for a singleplayer mostly historically accurate pirate experience, than black flag is your game, even if you aren't big in the AC franchise.

Alright, review's done, toodles.

seeing the Sunflower from Garden Warfare, Homelander, former president Barack Obama, and Oversimplified's version of Napoleon Bonaparte all team up to fight zombies is certainly an experience

Very fun game so far. The main story for now is a tad short being about 2-5 hours-ish, but has a plentiful amount of extra content like building your airship, exploring the open world, collecting all the posters, etc. And also has a bunch of updates coming like multiplayer and expanded story. Would definitely recommend.
