Haven't played any sort of card or deck building game since the GBA Yugioh games. I maybe invested 5 hours into Heartstone. But as someone whos a big fan of anything rogue/like/lite. Slay the Spire does not disappoint.

You choose from 1 of 3 characters, each with a base deck and a potential card pool to earn throughout battles to build your deck to your style. Along the way you will earn relics that offer various bonuses as well as encounter random events that can offer you powerful cards, new items or ways to change around cards in your deck.

As with Darkest Dungeon and FTL there is a strong element of patience, strategy and planning before moving through each act. planning ahead to deal with certain enemy types and learning the potential encounters becomes essential when pushing the games higher difficulties. But on the base mode a rudimentary understanding of the games system should award you a victory on most given runs. While luck is certainly a factor, making the most of whats available to you and figuring out how to survive is certainly paramount, and anyone saying the game is all luck lack understanding of the ability to work with what you have.

StS is a great roguelite and well worth a try for anyone who enjoys the genre, deck building games or even turn based combat.
