This remake keeps the feeling of the original System Shock intact while updating controls and adding smaller changes to things such as weapons and level design that is almost entirely for the better. Absolutely worth a try at the least.

***EDIT***
I decided to change the recommendation for this game after more time spent playing other Armored Core games, watching some of the souls games, messing with the game after the first few patches came out, and simply playing other games.

To give a more up to date review:

TLDR is that I think its a 6/10 at its best, but as an Armored Core game its barely a 4/10. It is mostly average from a game-play perspective and you can spend a lot of time customizing which is still largely enjoyable to whatever extent you want to do so. I loved spending time looking and trying to see how to best make a build in old Armored Core games and this mostly gets that same feeling down in the garage. However, as a whole it doesn't bring anything new to AC that would be worth keeping and it fails to reinvent or reinvigorate the classic ideas and foundations of AC to a new generation of gaming.

The game is like this: "Make me a new Armored Core game... no I don't care about actually reviving the unique game-play style it had, just make it pretty and throw in the stagger mechanic from Sekiro or something..." Funnily enough it was said in an interview that most of the team for AC6 never worked on an AC game, but upper staff were veterans who had some experience with the IP, and boy does it show.

The game has a feel like it was made by a 3rd party developer as a spin-off of a beloved IP (Hello to the new Marathon game) due to how massive the gap is between this game and ANY previous one. I wouldn't call this updating the game as they're largely just allowing the mechanics and designs that are easiest for them to implement into AC6.

-There is no radar like the old games and the scan is ONLY used for finding parts: a waste of a mechanic.
-The energy bar, which was always a huge focus in the older games, is gutted beyond belief.
-Stagger creates a huge divide in the meta of the game, it is THE ONLY mechanic to pay attention to.
-Building itself feels the most shallow due to all types of mechs largely controlling and feeling the same.
-Tons of different types of weapons but only a few of each is extremely unnecessary.
-Weirdly pushed-down-your-throat story that makes the game feel way more linear than it otherwise would have.

The game NEVER needed to have ANY of the things I listed to be exactly as they where before in a previous AC game, but it felt so hollow for so much of my time playing the game. I didn't expect it to be a perfect rebirth of the series, FS tried that before with Armored Core 4 and 5 respectively and as a result both are considered in their own space for the most part.

The only thing I wanted was Armored Core 6 to bring back the classic game-play of the series as best as it could. But it didn't, and that's fine, but this is such a simplistic game-play loop that relies on "difficulty" as a mechanic to carry what felt like a truly under cooked game for me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really do think the description on the store page says it right: "...Based on the concept of the ARMORED CORE series that uses the knowledge gained from FromSoftware's recent action game development."

Key word being concept, this game from the outset was always going to try and bridge the gap in some way between the fanbase and identity that FS has garnered due to their more recent action games and the older Armored Core fanbase and identity that has been wanting years a new game to come out.

The game feels like its less of a conglomerate of past AC games with modern control and design touches but again, what the description states: Armored Core concepts wrapped in their more recent trappings of game design. They did some genuinely great things in AC6, such as the different leg types all having very distinct identities to them compared to previous games. Often in older AC's different leg types were simply not good to just meh or so similar to others they were forgotten and just not all that interesting to use and build around. They also kept a lot of the customization in tact and being able to share mech builds and emblems is easier than ever due to Reddit and discord servers. They also added the ability weapon colors and weathering on the AC's themselves to really help give players a completely unique look to their favorite builds.

However I do feel some of the aspects bring the game down a bit. The sheer strength of the stagger mechanic makes most builds play into the same end goal, you stagger into whatever does the most DPS or burst damage on your build. It doesn't kill the build diversity of the game but it makes things almost monotonous at times with the loop of attacking>staggered>more attacking>repeat. The difficulty curve is also very strange, most missions are able to be done very quickly even when going for hidden items and combat logs, but there are a few (especially on NG+ and NG++) as well as a few bosses that just jump right into the deep end of the game's difficulty. It is a bit jarring and made the games pacing feel slow during the middle portion since there 4 bosses in the first 2 chapters, then the game slows it down by quite a lot before placing more at the end, sometimes back to back depending on the end path you are on. Its not a deal breaker and most bosses have enough flaws in their attacks or patterns that you can find ways to kill them in a decent amount of time, but its still such a large jolt I can't really understand why they didn't try to spread things out a bit better.

I got enough of a good game, and there are some genuinely great moments in it, that I enjoy it and I am willing to recommend it, but it sits more of an Armored Core lite to me than anything else. I don't know if trying to merge this many elements of both Armored Core and recent FromSoftware games is the best move for a main title Armored Core. It enters a sort of grey area where you can see both influences trying almost desperately to tell you that this is the NEW Armored Core, that its bringing back the IP in all of its glory when this game is too much in that grey area to answer that. I don't see a series coming back in full force when this game doesn't have the complete package of an older Armored Core but so few features from newer FromSoftware titles that it just sits kinda awkwardly between either group.

Its not Mechiro nor Armored Souls, but its also not an oldgen (Armored Core 1 - Armored Core 3 Last Raven), nor Armored Core 4, nor Armored Core 5. It is Armored Core 6, but I can't help but feel a bit similar to how CoD players and most gamers felt about Advanced Warfare.

I'd rate it about a 70. Its worth a try and definitely good but I personally wanted more from it.

A great diorama making game, the subtle audio and atmospheric sound design makes the experience very soothing and relaxing.

The mechanics are very basic yet understanding how to best utilize each item and seed makes it far more rewarding than it probably should be. Minor complaints about the limiting options for rotating and manipulating items as a whole are my largest issues, it can be awkward and somewhat tedious to get an object exactly where you want it. The lack of a highly controllable camera is my second largest complaint, making the previously mentioned issue a bit more annoying, but neither are really harming to the larger experience and only show up in a few of the overworld levels.

The art style is truly great and fits the gameplay perfectly, never making things too detailed but just detailed enough to make everything feel distinct and easy to identify. The pixel style makes it easy to look at as well and the game feels calming to look at, even with the wasteland background that the game uses.

The price is a bit much for such a simple and stripped down game, but you should absolutely grab it when it goes on sale as it is worth playing at least a few times.

Very relaxing and enjoyably peaceful. Very easy to spend half an hour or more working on getting certain patterns and colors.

Uses very basic and fundamental controls of classic FPS games to their fullest, adds extra layers with the system of using souls to power up weapons, and has a very beautiful and well done visual and audio style that really makes this game memorable for being so visually different from other FPS titles.

Because this game is so simple mechanically it is a really good first game for retro shooters and if you have played many and want to try it the beautiful level design and soundtrack will put this game up with many other great games.

~ I have had this game both on steam and as a standalone download, so my steam hours are not the total amount of time I have playing it ~
Try it if you're looking for something like World of Tanks or World of Warships, it is a very solid MMO and while technical issues have been present since the game originally launched, my experience with the game has gotten better over time, with issues such as crashing when loading into a match disappearing completely. The balance is not perfect, certain builds and mechs are much stronger than others due to the games nature, but you can still make any mech chassis work as long as you know what to do and how to handle situations as they come up.

Also, don't spend money if you don't want to. While the pricing for mechs using the in game currency can be pretty head scratching, you don't have to spend money just to get it. Play during events to get rewards such as premium time, premium currency, or in game currency. The past few events have given out a lot of it, so buying more expensive mechs hasn't been as bad as it was from my experience.

Overall, try it out if you like larger, team based MMO's or are interested in the universe the game is in.

This game is the most true to F Zero, and is most like F Zero X for that matter. It is very fast and also manages to keep some solid technical aspects into the tracks that make them a joy to race on. The track creator is really fun to just mess around with, as it is really easy to understand and utilize. The only caution is that the UI it has can be a bit confusing at first, so be cautious with your changes.
Gift this game to people, it is simple, fast, and easily enjoyable, more people need to play it.

Yes, it is that good of a game. Buy it and play it. The feeling of speed and momentum is really amazing, along with a great soundtrack this game is worth it's standard price, easily.

I was lucky enough to have played this game at points during its development, and I can say it is absolutely worth paying for. This is t h e anti-grav racing game to get if you love the WipEout games. It has a retro style that looks solid and doesn't compromise any of the gameplay elements, great mod support with its very own track creator, and solid music that makes it feel like it was a PSX WipEout game.
