Edit: After hitting 1000 hours of playtime 5 years later, I am back to reinforce the teachings of my younger self, that this game is indeed, "fun". Terraria is probably the best indie game I have ever played in my life, and I think my hours spent on the game is a good representation of that.

Terraria, in my honest opinion, is boundless. I first played this game when it released on the Xbox Live Arcade back in March of 2013, and I have been obsessed with it since. When I created my steam account (alongside my now-deprecated first computer) back in 2015, Terraria was one of the first games I ever bought. The fact that, in 2023, it's still the same price I bought it for all those years ago is just insane to me. The game is packed with content and it CONTINUES to grow yet the price-tag has never increased in all these years. The modding scene has also come so far since then. I remember the days where you had to do all the downloading + extracting yourself, now it's as simple as downloading tModLoader right here on Steam and downloading the mods in-game via the Mod Browser. But that's a whole other review.

While Terraria sees itself being compared to Minecraft a lot, which is understandable since, on the surface, they both share a very similar premise of digging blocks and utilising them to your hearts content, I feel as if this is not what Terraria excels at. Instead, the game has a much stronger focus on combat and exploration, which is just expansive in so many ways. 4 main 'classes' to choose from (Melee, Ranged, Magic and Summoning) with hundreds of weapons and accessories PER class, with tons of class-neutral armour and gear sprinkled in-between. All of this to be used in slaying countless numbers of different enemies, and not to forget the EIGHTEEN different main bosses to fight as you progress your world.

I can't say I usually write reviews this lengthy but Terraria is probably the one game I own that warrants it. Everyone at Re-Logic poured their heart and soul into creating and maintaining this game, and they truly do deserve all their flowers. If there is one game you have to buy, please consider Terraria. Watch videos, ask your friends, anything. The experience is truly limitless once you get stuck in.
