Its fun for a while.
But I think it is fair to say
And i hope this doesn't come across as cliche
That i have played my FINAL game of THE FINALS
As it's just not as fun as it used to be
Maybe its overbalanced like overwatch

Terrible bosses suck fun from game
Edit: The bosses are less frustrating in this day and age, nowadays.
I can recommend it now.

I can't recommend it unless they fix the combat. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and survival aspects of the game, but the combat just ruined it for me. In short, the enemies don't follow the same stamina rules that you follow. Staggering an enemy is never worth the stamina it cost you to stagger them. I only found it remotely enjoyable in coop, and even then it felt like cheating when we killed something. I've seen plenty of complaints about this online, but there seems to be a bit of a circlejerk culture in the forums / reddit where you aren't a pro gamer if you don't like the combat.

The progression system is interesting in that its different, but it basically equates to - buy skills from every vendor that increase your base stats, and then you are limited to buying a few more interesting skills of a certain class. Its okay but it doesn't really make much sense to me.

The world is nice to explore and doing it without a map pointer and not really knowing where you are going was a fun experience for me.
It's disappointing to see several DLCs released rather than fixing the issues with the game.

This game is good to sit in front of and throw yourself at to relieve yourself. It's fun. Postal guy is funny and good. Interesting reflection of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ consumer culture. Fun game.

On another note, the linux version isn't as good as windows. It hasn't been updated to latest version where bladed weapons are in normal game, and there is no workshop support. I am waiting on that.

Played for like a year now, and the game has come on a long way, the devs are incredibly active.
First of all, this game runs absolutely fantastic. I literally have the worst possible computer, with intel HD3000 graphics, and it still looks good. Not much in the way of settings for specific effects etc, but there's fastest fast good great beautiful so I guess that's okay. Since they baked in shadows to the maps it looks even better.

Building a robot is FUN. The interface is intuitive, you float around in your garage and place blocks. Menu's are easy to use (though the tech tree is a little cluttered). There are a lot of types of robot to choose from. In movement there's wheels, tracks, wings, helicopters, hoverblades, walker legs and blimps (or nonsensical combinations of these). They all require a certain amount of skill to use, and good players really have an advantage over people who are trying a new type of robot out, which is cool in my opinion. You have to learn your class.

Weapons are all fairly balanced. People will argue that any weapon is OP, but it just depends who is using it. Medics can kill SMGs if they are good, and so on. Rails seem a bit buggy, and they don't seem to shoot as far as you can see, maybe they need some work.

Teamwork is important, a plasma helping a rail out can destroy every flyer that comes near your base, a medic and smg combo can be unbreakable if they play well. (lest we talk of 2 medics).

The gamemodes are good. About a month ago they introduced the 'new meta', with overclocking robots, towers, bases, and everyone screaming "OH NO IT'S AN MMO NOW HELP WTF FREEJAM". The new gamemode is fun. It's fairly complex but easy to learn, still based on how good a pilot you are and still dependant on teamwork. You cap fight over towers to gain advantages over the other team, until eventually one team is powerful enough to take the fusion reactor. I think it is absolutely necessary that new maps are made, because I don't think the current ones are all really suitable for the new gamemode, where they just adapted them a little for it. But it's in development so whatever.

Progression is interesting. It's a sort of tug or war between how much money you have, what weapons you have unlocked, and your CPU (rank effectively) which allows you to build bigger robots. It's certainly fun to go through, but it takes a long time (though some people just blast though the ranks somehow). I know a lot of people won't be into drawn out progression, so if you aren't maybe this isn't for you. But even still, all the time you are matched with robots at the same level as you, so it is never really unfair.
The game isn't pay to win. You can pay to get to higher tiers faster, but you will never have an advantage over another player because you payed freejam money (you can certainly look prettier though!).

This game is a lot of fun. Platooning with friends is great, you can always build a robot for a lower tier (you have multiple garages), so won't have to worry about being too high a level like when you grab someone to play borderlands with you.
I hope they introduce a voice client other than curse voice (though it looks like it's here to stay) since there's no mac or linux support and clients like teamspeak 3 and mumble are already established and great.
Otherwise, absolutely would recommend.

First of all, this game can be hard to get in to. Mainly because it's hard. There are some things that you will only learn not to do once you have died repeatedly by doing them. And that can hurt, especially when you are a couple of hours into a run. Permadeath hits hard when the game lasts so long.

But that really steps the tension in this game up a level. The game does a very good job of making you scared, in a few ways. There's a clever viewpoint system that makes tight corridors feel claustrophobic and open areas make you terified of a redguard standing on the other side. I'm impressed by the sounds. At first I was dissapointed that there was no music, but I have learned that it really matters that you are listening out for footsteps, to tell whether there is a giant zombie on the other side of that door or a group of gunmen approaching. I feel that the ambiant sounds of the facility could be more detailed, however.
When you are attacked and are not ready, it's a panic, which is the last thing you want to do. Switching through weapons, trying to remember which one still has ammo left over, trying to work out where to run that you aren't going to be swarmed, and firing off rounds and MISSING! Missing really hurts in this game. Ammo is scarce.

Overal. If you don't want a tense, hard, painful, roguelike that punishes you for every mistake, this isn't for you. If you are willing to deal with that for the immensely satisfying experiance of finally beating those robots of doom, with 2 health left, healing up again and finding enough ammo to last you for ever, you'll like this. I really do. Favourite rogue-like. I think it really starts to shine when you actually get good at it.

Oh I'll give some advice too, for best enjoyment. I'd play the arena mode a fair bit first, so that you don't get disapointed that you died because you aren't used to the controls yet in your first few runs. Then i'd go into the 'story' and have some fun.
