First thing's first: This isn't a cyberpunk game, it's a Cyberpunk 2020 game. There'll be influences from other cyberpunk works such as Bladerunner and Ghost in the Shell, but this story is very rooted in a particular world and, once you realize that, it's easier to appreciate the story it's trying to tell.

On that note I found the writing to be solid. The themes were consistent (though maybe not what people were expecting) and the aesthetic comes through. The characters have the fair amount of depth that you'd expect from CDPR, however I'd have liked to see more of most of them.

Gameplay was a mess, and I highly recommend exploring the mod scene. Mods such as Full Gameplay Rebalance will really step up the mechanics to something enjoyable and challenging, and other mods will polish up the driving controls and make getting around less frustrating.

Altogether, I had a lot of fun playing through Cyberpunk 2077 and will enjoy another romp or two through Night City before I consider putting it down.

I nominated this game for the "Defies Description" award because only the basic premise of the game can be described. You check documents and let in those who meet the criteria. Simple enough, right? Wrong. Just play it and see where it goes. Then play it again and see where it goes the next time. It's worth it.
