This is a phenomenal game, highly recommend at any price (Though Valve seems to put it on sale constantly, so if you're short on money wait for a sale.)

Explore the life of Gordon Freeman as you puzzle around a seemingly infinite facility after a catastrophe. This game heavily benefits from software rendering (the 16-bit color map looks amazing), so I *highly* recommend you take your time to set this up.

Ammunition is sparse, so using the proper gun for the occasion is key (I had a HUGE issue with the final bosses because I was wasting ammo).

A core component of the game revolves around NPCs that you can ask to accompany you, but the AI is really janky and I found myself walking back to collect the NPC because they had gotten themselves stuck.

Bonus for those of you reading this far, here's how to setup software rendering in 2023 (Windows 10 and higher):
  1. Browse to your game directory (..\steamapps\common\Half-Life)
  2. Right-click hl.exe and open the Properties window
  3. Go to Compatibility on the top ribbon and change Compatibility mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 3), and change Reduced color mode to 16-bit (65536) color.
  4. Apply and close
  5. Launch Half Life on Steam
  6. Open Options, then go to Video
  7. Change Renderer to Software
  8. Change resolution to 1280x960 on a desktop resolution of 1920x1080 or lower; if your monitor is a higher resolution, you *will* need to change your desktop resolution to 1920x1080 to prevent an input error (observed as the camera uncontrollably spinning while looking up)
  9. (Optional) Enable high resolution models
  10. Enjoy Half-Life as it was meant to be played

A must-have VR game about slashing cubes to the beat! The base game is great, and includes updates over time via DLC, but the real meat in the potatoes is the modding community.

Mods to look for are ModAssistant[github.com] and LegacyInstaller[github.com].

ModAssistant is a modding tool similar to Vortex or Mod Organizer; it allows one-click install of custom songs and playlists, as well as easy install of popular mods. LegacyInstaller allows you to play previous versions of Beat Saber, which comes in handy since Beat Saber has a lot of updates that break mods temporarily.
