To sum up everything I’ve wanted to say about this game, I’ll just echo the words I told the guy who played it with me: “The people I was with before were too focused on making the perfect run. It doesn't have to be like that. Sometimes, it’s as easy as having someone who can just get through it—no matter how simple or complex the game may be.”

I was already losing hope of ever completing this game, which had been sitting in my backlog for years. Just like other relationships (romantic or otherwise), there are connections that simply fail to bind. But on my 28th attempt to find someone to finish It Takes Two with—who would have thought it would finally happen now?

On the surface, it’s a wonderfully interactive co-op game, offering platforming, puzzles, and stages with their own unique flair: every moment feels worthwhile. But beyond that, this game reminded me of something we often forget: the importance of building connections. I never imagined I’d meet an amazing duo, both in-game and beyond, through this.

Playing as May allowed me to drop my walls and savor each interaction as genuinely as I could. For a moment, I felt like my truest self—not trying too hard to be some extreme gamer chasing speedruns, but simply enjoying the game for what it was. And for a title that relies so heavily on voice communication, Leon and I managed to finish it twice without speaking a single word—just pure gamer instinct. It turns out you don’t need the loudest voice to solve puzzles; you just need rare, unspoken sync.

I am forever humbled and honored by this experience. And I’ll keep it with me, always.
