After 30 hours in early access, I can confidently say Hades II surpasses the original in almost every way. The gameplay is still that tight, addictive loop of combat, exploration, and progression, but now with more depth and variety thanks to mechanics like Arcana Cards and Path of Stars. The new protagonist, Melinoë, is a total badass with abilities that feel fresh and powerful while still retaining the finesse of Zagreus’s arsenal from the first game.

The hub, now the Crossroads, is bigger and livelier, with new gods and spirits to interact with. The banter and lore are top-tier, and I find myself eavesdropping on random NPCs for those delightful story nuggets. Also, the new green and turquoise visuals are stunning, and the music? Still the absolute chef’s kiss of roguelike soundtracks.

Pros:
✅ Addictive combat with tons of build options
✅ Gorgeous art and animations
✅ A storyline that’s already more intriguing than the first
✅ New mechanics (like the Harvest system) that add strategic layers

Cons:
❌ Early access means there’s more content to come (or, if you’re impatient, less to enjoy now)

With Season 2 the game got pretty good already, so there is hope for the future.

I still wish they wouldn't have charged again for the Steam version.
