BACKGROUND - Having played only a bit of the game a day before Closed Beta concluded, the weeks following the release of open beta had me craving that classic, button-mashing, instant action and pure control of a highly specialized character, tailored specifically to what you might want in a character. Although gender locked classes may be a bit of a turnoff to others, the developers have made a clear distinction between the personalities of the characters even from the selection screen. Following the release of Open Beta, I have stayed relatively consistent on playing the game throughout the weeks, even following bad or mediocre updates. Despite this, I am sensing the true nature of Enmasse, whom, though care about making money, are also fairly invested in making the game favorable to the community. Granted, the publishers have made some VERY questionable decisions regarding the game and the community, but overall, it seems they are putting in more effort to improve the game by utilizing more community input, as well as the implementation of the road development maps, the official discord, and the communication between community managers, Knoxxer and Smorecer between the community to improve updates.

CLASSES - A brute Warrior, specialized at dealing tons of damage, obviously made for those seeking a testoterone filled, protein-gorging, and tough one-liners experience, the Catspaw, obviously made for those who want an adorkable character constantly spewing out feline sounds and purrs with relative speed and poise, the Reaper, for those who are obviously attracted by two VERY distinct things... her very large scythe, and the fact that she's one of the more mobile classes in the game.😬 And lastly, the Gunmage, who is relatively soft-spoken compared to the other classes of the game, but does not restrict himself from the occasional witty one-liners and countdowns for one of his particular skills.

LEVELING - Leveling throughout Kritika can be both exciting and mundane, although the early progressions of the game have you advancing relatively quickly from one town hub to the next, it is no mystery that you will be running some of the same dungeons multiple times before being able to advance to the next dungeon or town-hub. Despite being able to run new dungeons after reaching certain levels, the game REALLY wants you to do quests along the way, which, in essence slows down your leveling progression, but does grant you some really nice rewards, especially later in the game. There are also some levels in particular that have varying experience requirements that don't necessarily make sense, likely due to the port from a different area of the world (For example, two levels before the level cap, you need about 50% more experience from 63 to 64, than from 64 to 65.

GAMEPLAY - From my experience, I have enjoyed starting out with the warrior, experimenting with skills once I chose a specialized class (Doomblade), and learning various quirks about the class that increased my efficiency and overall damage with class over time. In general, this is how most players will experience the game, choosing a class, choosing specialization of the class, and thus, learn the ins and outs of the character. Although alternate characters will come into play later into the game for the account benefits, most peoples' initial class will be what they inevitably learn the most about. Which isn't to say one cannot master all, or play all the classes and subclasses (I've got a friend who has all 11 classes and their subclasses), but in general sticking to one class and becoming wholly efficient at destroying mobs will be a large part of the enjoyment of the game. A large part of the game is also gearing up your characters to further increase your efficiency at farming, which will come along through leveling, but mainly with end-game farming of several dungeons. The use of the auction house in game will allow those who don't necessarily have the time to farm for hours each day to purchase equipment to help further progress, which isn't to say that it is P2W, as enhancements will come into play for advancing gear, which I have found, is much cheaper, and more efficient to farm materials ingame than to purchase them with currency.

OVERALL - I wouldn't say that Kritika is innovative or fresh, or that it even has the best graphics, but what it does have is a game that knows it's identity as a Beat-them-up arcade style RPG and that it does intend to stick to it. Although misnomered as an MMORPG, it does have elements of an RPG backed by solid gameplay and mechanics that make it fairly enjoyable to those who are willing to stick with it. Elements of P2W will always be there with games that come from SEA backgrounds, but it is relatively easy to get geared even for a casual player.

TL:DR
Fun Beat-em-up game if you stick with it, has elements of P2W but not overwhelmingly so, and relatively straight-forward gameplay that would appeal to anyone looking to kill time in a fast-paced way. Development team makes questionable decisions at various points, but is in it for the overall improvement and longevity of the game.

Been playing this game for several years now. Still hasn't lost much of its luster and novelty ever since that faithful day I decided to start playing on cp_granary back in '07. First person shooter, In-game economy, Achievement Servers, Trade Servers, Jump Servers, Zombie Fortress Servers, Smash Bros Servers, Versus Saxton Hale Servers, Freak Fortress Servers. Neverending novelty hahaha. Not to mention the newly introduced Mann versus Machine. Although, Overwatch is just over the horizon. We'll see what happens. Still a great game after all these years.
