lol, sure. At least you're honest about it.
Do it. As long you don't claim the model as your own. /end_transmission
Anyways, thanks!
Go ahead. I'm sure many would be glad to have it.
Just asking if it's okay to upload a working Gmod Playermodel version of Niko. I know you get this request a lot, but I've only seen one person do it and it's not functioning properly.
I have it already made and tested. I may add NPCs as well at a later time if you're okay with this.
Thanks!
That's oddly specific. Either way, glad you got it sorted out!
It was the VTF version! The flags and format were correct, but games like Gmod and L4D2 require the lightwarps to be 7.2 to work on low settings! Was 7.5 introduced in Portal 2, or was it CS:GO? Either way, maybe 7.5 lightwarps would work in those games, but L4D2 and before need the lightwarps to be 7.2.
I tried $halflambert on all VMTs and that didn't work. But I discovered something. I used TF2's original pyro_lightwarp for Niko, and it worked perfectly on Low settings, along with the other settings. This means that L4D2's lighting engine wasn't altered/messed with to break lightwarps and the VMTs themselves are perfectly fine; it's the lightwarp texture itself that's broken.
I'm not sure why, but the way on how the lightwarp is made seems to determine if it glitches or not. I'm gonna try to make a new lightwarp with the ones you've made to see if that fixes the problem.
Oh, and L4D2 does not support DirectX 8.1 or lower. It's weird.
Ah I have had encounters with these issues since they were reported as bugs (no mention of low settings, it could've been the cause!). I believe it might have to do with lightwarptexture not being supported for DirectX 8.1 or lower. Try adding $halflambert to all the .vmt.
Outside of this possible solution, I honestly have no idea. Sorry!

(Sorry for posting 2 times. Steam's character limit threw me off.)
I uploaded the Niko L4D2 mod (thanks again), but there's something wrong with the model's lightwarp textures. When a user has their Model/Texture settings set to Low, the lightwarps glitch up and look broken.
I've tried to see if the VMTs had issues, but everything was fine. I tested the Niko ragdoll for Gmod to see if the problem happened there too, and it does for Model and Texture being low!
Gmod would show this console error:
Warning! Encountered old format VTF file; please rebuild it!
Error reading material data
"materials/models/oneshot/anoob/body_lightwarp.vtf"
(Same for eye_lightwarp.vtf)
L4D2 had no console errors.
This only happens on Low settings.
When making the L4D2 port, I had to change the textures' formats to 7.4 instead of 7.5. I never changed the Gmod texture formats.
I'm sorry that this came out of the blue. I wished that I could have figured this out by myself and save you the trouble. Thanks for reading this!
The model has been in VRChat for months now.
You may edit the model however you wish. I don't mind whatever my model is used for as long you don't take full credit for it. Good luck!
I've noticed that there are quite the amount of people that are requesting the use of the model, so I hope I won't become a burden for you.
As for the thing I wanted to discuss, there's something that I have to bring up. When creating player mods, characters use View Models which are floating arms for the first-person view. I won't go into detail, but in order for me to make the arms look good in first person without blocking the player's view, I'll have to actually edit the model. This is only for the first person model, the world model (3rd person), which is the main model, is untouched. Will this be a problem?
uh ok. actually i even wasn't aware that it was being used as a model mod in l4d2
I was wondering if it would be okay if I could use your Niko model as a L4D2 Survivor mod. I know that one already exists, but I was not too fond of it.
If it is okay for me to do this, I'd like to discuss a few things about porting the model. Sorry if this isn't the proper place to be requesting.
Thanks!
Get accustomed to blend shapes, you control the eyes and facial expressions there.
Just delete it. Hull is used for collision box and is not meant to be visible.
Please relay all future specific-model-related posts to their respective workshop whenever possible. Nonetheless... I don't take custom texture requests, but the textures you should be looking to edit are carol2_skin and cory_head. Try greyscale plus some manual touchup.
Another looking to get the model to VRChat? Niko's got a lot of competition!
Simply export the model from Source into a 3d program (with proper plugins) and from there you can just drop it into Unity. I'll leave it to you to figure out the exact details. Meanwhile, I'm working on an update to the model, you might want to take the time to learn the process.
Go-go-go for it! I'll eagerly wait for them to cameo in some meme video.
