The original Snake Eater is a very special game to me. I remember playing the 3DS version as a kid and it expanding my mind to what a video game can me theatrically. It led me to buying multiple copies of this game from Subsistence on the PS2 to the HD Collection on the Xbox 360-- extremely fond memories of mine! As I write this, I'm currently posted up before the Pain boss fight so this review is incomplete. However, I felt compelled to make this review because, spoiler alert..., I think its a fantastic and faithful remake so far!

The new movement mode addresses the one thing that makes it difficult for me to replay the original (although, that's never stopped me), the environmental graphics are breathtaking, immersive, and dynamic, and the cinematics are faithfully recreated. The performance has been rock-solid so far and honestly, I haven't had any issues with the 60FPS cap. Unlimited FPS would be a nice addition, but I sincerely believe that it's unnecessary for this game.

With that being said, I do feel that the facial animations can be a little awkward at points-- particularly mouth movements in speech. Some character designs don't feel like they capture the original characters' vibes. EVA and Ocelot both feel a *little* off, but maybe that's because the original's art design was so well done. I do feel like Boss, Snake, and Paramedic look great though, so honestly kind of hit or miss for me in this department. This is down to the player's opinion, so take this with a grain of salt.

I had always deeply wished that this game got the full remake treatment but, once the whole Kojima v. Konami drama happened, and after seeing the pachinko thing..., I had mostly given up on the idea. But here we are! I think they succeeded with this remake and I would love to see the older titles get the same treatment. And port MGS4 onto PC dammit!! That game is a masterpiece and deserves to be seen by the newer generations...

Verdict: 9/10, excellent performance, faithful remake of a timeless classic
