I'm not one to write reviews normally, and I don't really intend to here either. Watch streams and try out the game for yourself to form an opinion on it. The purpose of this review is to leave a positive reccomendation for Aritfact. I personally love the game and the intensity it offers in draft mode, it's everything I could want in terms of gameplay. When it comes to the monetization model - all I have to say is get over it. It doesn't matter if it is a CCG or a TCG, IRL or digital, they all require money to play competively. This is what Artifact is, a competitive TCG. If you don't like it, go ahead and try to change it, or not. I for one and fine with it as I'm sure many others are. Even then, Artifact doesn't require much beyond the initial $20 purchase to play as much as you like. Free community draft tournaments, free phantom draft (more casual), and then the intial 5 tickets for the expert draft are plently enough. If you study up on the game and do some casual drafts before hand, it's really not too difficult to get more event tickets for free. Alternatively, you can spend an extra $20 on event tickets, and go infinite with good play from there.

TL;DR: Artifact is a game for people who want a competitive experience. With a small paywall, time invested into studying will ultimately pay out and allow you to play "for free."

I'm not a big fan of writing long detailed pieces so I will just give my 2 cents. The game has it's problems, the cover mechanics are poorly done, picking up items can SOMETIMES be annoying, and I wish there was an option to press a button to go over cover among other small things. However, if you look past the issues the game it's self is a lot of fun with friends. The emphasis on "with friends". There are two steam groups and the community is nice enough where you can add a good number of peol;le to get games going but it can take some time. If you already have your friends ready to jump in and the only expectations you have are to have fun then 100% give this game a shot. I did buy the game on sale and you can get it from other sources for very cheap so there are options. Only buy at full price if you have friends ready and able to play with you. Otherwise very fun game.

You play as Misa a Blade Templar given the task of protecting the Demon Blade. Suzuka a close friend of yours has gotten her hands on the Demon Blade and is being corrupted by the powers it holds. The swrod manafests enemies and bosses through Suzuka's life force. So what do you do in turn? Fight your way through countless enemies and bosses in between stages.

There are 5 stages and 6 bosses. Between waves 1 - 5 of a stage you fight the indifferent mobs and at stage 6 you take on the boss. A lot of people complain about the difficulty which I do believe is there, for a while atleast. Once you get the patterns of the bosses down it gets easier. Similar to Dark Souls (don't kill me please) mixed with Ninja Gaiden. Really the hardest part of the game for me is the mobs at the higher difficulties. Even when you get their patterns down the sheer number of them at times can throw me off. Of coarse I plan to change that as I only have 10 hours in and am planning on getting all the emotes, backgrounds, badges, cards, and acheivements for the game.

The mechanics are pretty solid for me. I don't have much experience with this genre so I can't go in further details other than I find them very enjoyable. Fluid for the most part and plenty of defensive options that that are hard for me to get down and pat (i.e counter, flourish, just guard).

Story very linear but that doesn't matter to much with this kind of game. Cute girls, hard bosses, fluid combat, high combos. What's not to like about this game? How ever I have to say even if people like the Hack and Slash nature of the game it is VERY linear. You are set in an arena with changing back grounds after every boss fight. Enemy moddles are mostly the same but I don't mind that. For $2.50 or even the full price I would highly recommend this game, as I am enjoying it imensly. MIsa + Suzuka for life <3
