This game was really good in a way that is impossible to say more about without spoiling it somewhat. Please, even if you're not the biggest fan of roguelikes, consider giving this one a shot -- because it's really something special.

this game is pretty sick and i kick ass at it which means that it's even sicker than it would be otherwise

I Kickstarted this game, and definitely don't regret it. There's a lot of reading, so if you're not into that, stay away -- but if you like the details, this game will keep you hooked in tight. The amount of variable text is really pleasant -- even to the extent that different characters have different descriptive dialogue.

The amount of content only keeps deepening, too, with a number of free patches that are still being applied by the dev.

I backed this game on Kickstarter before release.

This is one of a handful of Kickstarter projects I've been truly disappointed with. The Kickstarter project showed promising mockups of what could have been an interesting game, if a bit simple. The ideas seemed to come from something like Papers, Please -- repetitive, simple activities that are made more interesting by introduced complexity. However, Safe House fails to introduce any interesting complexity -- each individual 'puzzle' is learned in its entirety the first time you do the minigame. None are particularly interesting the first time around.

Most minigames involve just cross-referencing a basic list with the information in the minigame. There's little nuance in these games -- think the kind of 'puzzles' you'd find on the back of a cereal box. Nothing about the games themselves are particularly compelling -- which could be overlooked for other elements like a strong presentation, narrative, or if any part of the whole package managed to innovate on the ideas within.

However, the presentation is lacking, with chunky 3D models with only the most basic of animation. There is one major music track you'll hear over and over, and many parts of the game are scored by silence or near silence. The interface is hacked together -- if anything could have been improved with relative ease, it would've been the vsiuals on these documents, all kinds of 'top secret' spy stuff. There's nothing compelling in the presentation of the game, which is a big disappointment as many of the mockup pieces look much better than the final product.

The story is nothing to really marvel at, either -- there are some basic moral decisions over the course of the plot. There's no apparent new game plus mode and there's no real incentive to play through the monotonous main game again to get to the endgame again -- mind you, there's no 'save game' feature, so it's not like you can save right before making a big decision and go back to experience the other route -- no, if you really want to do that, you'd best play through the entire game again.

Overall, this wasn't a great experience and I'm not really inclined to dig deeper to see if the other story paths make it any better -- which I really doubt, given the experience I've had so far.

Great music, good voice acting -- especially for an indie venture -- and a very nicely written story. The story is intriguing, especially later into the game, and the characters are hilarious. Dialogue is snarky and well-written, and had me laughing a lot. In my opinion, the only thing truly lacking was the gameplay, which was a little weak. I only played on medium, and it was challenging by the end of the game, but the content was repetitive. This isn't so much a problem of difficulty, but more a byproduct of the game's small pool of resources compared to many other rhythm games.

All in all, as a cheap-ass game it's a nice buy. It makes for an especially nice deal during Steam Sales and the like.

While a little shallow in content, it's got the excuse of being fairly new. What it does have shines with fun combat and amazing artistic style.

It may not be your thing, but I recommend giving it a try, at the least.
