It's been quite awhile and AC3 is still my favorite game in the series tied with AC4. The story is fantastic. The gameplay is fantastic. AC3 is the first AC game that really dives into a more open world approach, giving you a LOT of various things to do outside of the main quest.

Pros of AC3:
There's very little I DON'T like about AC3.
  • The protagonists are great. Connor is one of the most genuine, compelling protagonists in the series. Side characters, even ones as minor as your homesteaders, are memorable.
  • The villains are believable, interesting, and fun to hate.
  • The assassin story is ambitious and rewarding. Connor's story wraps up beautifully.
  • Combat is fun and brings some new mechanics to series, such as prompts that show you when an enemy is about to attack, allowing you to counter them efficiently. You also get a pretty sweet new slow motion kill cam.
  • There's so much to do. Want to sail your own ship? Do it! Want to hunt? Do it! Want to build your homestead? Do it! Want to parkour through Boston and New York? DO IT! The heart of the American Revolution is your f*ckin playground.
  • No romantic subplot
  • This game has aged well and the world is beautiful. Nothing beats hopping through the trees as the forest changes seasons from mission to mission. I often found myself parking Connor on top of a tree just to stare at the landscape.
  • Desmond in action! Desmond goes on some very engaging missions outside of the Animus and puts his assassin skills to the test.
  • Ubisoft pulls no punches with the hard facts and hypocrisy of the Revolution and the Founding Fathers' idea of “freedom.” This is evident in the narrative even without Shaun Hasting's non-stop tiresome sarcastic rambling. (Seriously Shaun, it was cute maybe the first 500 times but it gets old really fast.)
  • Ubisoft's exhausting obsession with revenge arcs actually feels appropriate and justified in this setting. There are few video game villains I've wanted to shoot square in the nuts more than Charles Lee.

Cons of AC3:
  • You know what I'm gonna say. The controls. Come on, the series boasts nine main games now and Ubisoft STILL doesn't know what to do with the controls.
  • Wow, a lot of pros and ONE con? There has to be a catch, right? Right. The ending. Oh sweet baby Jesus, the ending...It's been about 5 years but even if you weren't into AC until now, the ending was so bad that you've probably heard of it anyway. I can't name a single video game ending that has disappointed me more.

All that being said, AC3 is definitely worth a play (or two or three) even with its painful and unsatisfying conclusion to the Desmond trilogy. You can get it on sale if you want but IMHO it's well worth the full price too.

A great game that I keep coming back to years after its release. The story and dialogue aren't as strong as previous Fallout games, but the gameplay, exploration, and base building are amazing. The modding community is still active in 2023.

This is the first time I'm writing a review for a game, but it's a damn good game so I think it'll be worth writing. Note: This is for the whole game, not just Episode 1, because the game doesn't have a central store page. Spoilers abound.

Pros:
  • An incredibly well-done plot and concept.
  • The game rewards you for paying attention to your surroundings. Seemingly meaningless clues can help you out with major things, like dialogue or codes. There are also hidden collectible photos for Max to take.
  • The game art is brilliant. It takes advantage of painterly styles to fit in with Max's chosen profession as an artist (photographer).
  • Takes puzzle games / choices matter games to a whole new level.
  • Choices really do matter. Things you do in Ep 1 will be brought up throughout the game, all the way to Ep 5. It's not like Dragon Age: Inquisition where you make some choices and the lore overrides most of your decisions at the end. This is your game, your story. And you really do feel the weight of some of the choices you have to make.
  • You think it's gonna be a pretty chill story game by Square Enix, but it gets very VERY intense and heavy really fast, often without warning.
  • Good rep for bi/lesbian folks like myself (bisexual).
  • Fun and funny easter eggs / references, such as when Max says Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was a great movie and she doesn't care what anyone thinks. Nice one, Square Enix.
  • As a whole the game is very rewarding.

Cons:
  • Random stealth puzzles, the most annoying of which is in Ep 5. It's not as bad since Max can rewind, but the stealth missions often feel out of place.
  • Some BIG choices depend on you being nosy and not everyone who plays is going to initially be that nosy. Spoiler Example: I managed to save Kate but I made a point of going through her things. Someone who isn't paying attention to her room might miss out on a lot of clues that can keep Kate from committing suicide.
  • The lip-syncing is often sloppy.
  • The final end-game decision is really sh*tty. It makes compete sense, but that doesn't make it any less disappointing.

Conclusion: No "Choices Matter" game I've played has ever matched the intensity and weight of Life is Strange. It is THE Choices Matter game. Genre aside, the art direction, the characters, and the plot are outstanding. Get comfortable, because once you pick it up, you'll have a lot of trouble putting it down.

Really fun tool to help you design concepts for new characters. It could use more hair and clothing options, but it's pretty good for a free product.

Good for people who want a game like League of Legends (which is actually based off of DOTA) but don't want the toxic community / outrageous money sink that comes along with LoL. Not a fan of the voice chat but it's quicker than typing.

Not as good as Bioshock 1, but it was definitely interesting to play as a Big Daddy (and briefly as a Little Sister). The added achievements were nice for completionists like myself.

A classic that every lover of FPS story-intensive games should play. Remains one of my favorite games of all time.
