Its not as bad as I was told

Do you want to RP as a possessed, lustful dwarf on a kidnap/murder rampage across medieval europe? Might be the game for you

its unique and really good if you like the age of sail, but developers need to breath some life into it

This will forever be the highlight of my long journey through MMO's. I'd rate it my favourite and I've played most of them.

While the graphics are somewhat dated now, they still aren't awful. The soundtrack is frankly a masterpiece, the combat is truly unique and hasn't been replicated since, while the story and atmosphere captures the brutal, mature nature of the world of Hyboria.

In my opinion it's still worth downloading and at least playing through the opening region of Tortage. It's a shame that Funcom abandoned it. I for one will continue journeying through this fantastic world right up until the end!

It's total war but with anglo-saxons and vikings.

The recruitment system is the best of any TW. When you raise a unit of troops they take a few turns to fully raise, with elite units taking a long time to get up to fighting condition. Minor settlements also don't have garrisons or fortifications, so the game doesn't descend into grinding through sieges and knocking down endless doomstacks. Settlements change hands easily.

It really captures the time period.

A polished, turn-based strategy game that lets you customise and grow your own band of mercenaries in a low fantasy medieval setting.

Aim point blank and you still might miss. Your bayonet goes through the other chaps belly and nothing. As much as I enjoy the period its just too frustrating.

Fond memories of putting countless hours into this game when I was a kid. Not much has changed. Just buy it.
