This is a very odd little game. I picked it up on a whim and I'm in love with in. For the price is it absolutely worth dipping in.

Pros:
The aesthetics are gorgeous. Every enviroment is crisp and different. Even on the same floor different areas feel like this suitably alien world.
The combat is simple but engaging. There's a wide variety of enemies and learning how to avoid their attacks and stay alive is consistently fun.
There is a "hint system" in game. Consisting of various memories you can unlock that show people who came before you exploring the world. Paying attention to these helps you figure out secrets and new paths (with a few small exceptions.)
Like most souls-likes all the lore is built into the items you pick up and some of it is quite interesting. Each bit fills out more of the world.

Neutral:

I am honestly stuck. I have a memory hint for a specific door and I have no idea what to do to get past it. I've ask in the forums for help and maybe the dev will make the hint slightly clearer.

Cons:
There is one section on the first map that's honestly kind of a pain to get to and it holds an item I don't have the ability to get to you.

All in all an excellent game. I am quite surprised at the fun I'm having, especially for the price point. Once I get past my little hump I can't wait to finish it.

So... I REALLY want to like this game. I really do but it is a convoluted, massive, unexplained mess of everything that respects no ones time.

Pros:
Fantastic Story: I cannot stress this enough, the twists and turns are just amazing and have kept me on my toes from start to now.
Art: The art is beautiful too, lots of character designs are just gorgeous and work so well. If you like tiddies there are a lot of them in there too... for reasons.
Voice Acting: Some of the voice acting has just made me tear up and cry over a few of the characters

Neutral:
Character Creation: There are a LOT of options here. Personalities, Favourites (do they do anything? who knows. See tutorials) and you unlock a lot more as you game. There are 24 classes, two sets of 12 that are slightly different (the game does not tell you outright how to switch between them. It's Triangle on a controller.

Cons:
UI: The UI is a mess. It barely has any information and uses hundreds of disparate icons to try and explain things that go nowhere. The sort functions are incredibly weak and barely existent. The equipment system is clunky and a royal pain in every way. There's an optimize feature but you have no way of telling how it even works if it even works. It will constantly pick worse equipment for characters and classes for no real reason.

Gameplay: Lots of variety, lots of things to do... and do... and do... and do..... When you get to your second set of 120ish random floors. Then there's more... Minor Mechanical Spoiler: One of the dungeons is literally 3650 random floors with the random chance of being able to skip a bunch. This is REQUIRED to beat the game

Side Quests: There are a lot here. They're basically fetch quests. Insanely long grindy fetch quests that rely 100% on RNG. Need 10 of an item? get ready to do the same 5 floors in a dungeon for 3-4 hours. Maybe it'll take 6, maybe it'll take 1. Who knows. The story required side quests at least have a decent drop rate but a lot of the best gear is locked behind these requests.

Boring items: The whole point of the game is art. You find art, you find rare relics, you find all sorts of interesting things that do all sorts of interesting stuff... but not one of them has any sort of flavour. There are no pictures, no descriptions, nothing... it's just an icon in your inventory and a slot in your bag. You even carry around a CATALOG of these items and have no way to access it to or anything, it's just another icon to stare at pointlessly. This is especially disappointing from NIS who have a habit of making very creative descriptions.

Skill System: This is... a lot of issues with the UI here. The worst part is you are constantly resetting your characters back to level 1 to power them up but of course this resets all your skills so you have to do them all again. A lot of the skills make absolutely no sense "When an enemy has 1hp do exactly 1 damage" What? why? How is this important?

Tutorials: This is another UI issue in that a lot of the mechanics just aren't explained. Luck? too bad. Pursuit attacks? what are those. SP Abilities: Good luck figuring it out on your own. Just so much that should have been better explained.

Spread sheeting: This is more of a personal beef but any game where I need to spend several hours making any sort of spreadsheet or pouring over them to make sure my characters are powerful enough to fight some of the BS bosses the game has. It becomes really important because some skills and classes can make your build effectively worse... to the point where you just need to start over on them.

Conclusion: I'm just going to find a youtube video of the ending from someone who has more time to waste than me. I'm 90 hours in and I migth need another 90-120 just to beat the last dungeon. So... nope.

Early Access Review
This was a bit of an impulse purchase but I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with this game. I definitely feel my money was well spent.

Pros:
Art style is very cute and polished.
Lots of level variety.
A wide variety of weapons with different effects
A wide variety of powers and upgrades
An excellent map that shows which enemies are in which area. Very useful.

Neutral:
On normal mode at least it's a bit easy. Once I learned how to use and upgrade potions boss battles basically became a war of attrition and dodging attacks only somewhat mattered.

Cons:
No tutorial. This wouldn't be too bad but I didn't even realize I had potions until I accidentally pressed the wrong button and healed.
This is an early access issue but there's some content that exists and is visible that seems to be locked behind future updates (there's at least one chest in a forum thread that's like this.)

I'm reviewing this for the Steam Awards things and I wish I could nominate it for different categories.

Do you like Visual Novels? Do you like Whodunnits? Do you like cute pink bears that jump and buttstomp mechanical monsters?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, play danganronpa... just start with Trigger Happy Havoc.

The steam controller is great. Valves advertising of it is horrendous. "GET X% off when you buy with this game" -> "SORRY, WE LIED. GO BACK TO YOUR CANADIAN IGLOOS"

Game stuttered badly on my dying GTX560Ti so I waited till I replaced it with a GTX960 4gb. Game still stutters and lags badly while trying to look around at certain things.

Early Access Review
My friend got this for me as part of a bundle he purchased. It looked interesting so I tried it out. Man was I blown away. It's still in early access but it's incredibly polished. They got the engine and systems down first and now all they need to do is add more content, this is how Early Access should work. Long story short, it's highly worth it.
