Early Access Review
I'm another one who played and loved Portia, so I picked up Sandrock in a heartbeat. And boy, does it deliver. The setting and how the systems interact with it makes it feel so different than Portia! Water is an important resource, scrap piles for recycling are your best friend (especially in the early game), and you can get in trouble for cutting down the wrong trees! There are some growing pains that make it scream "I'm in early access!" like graphical bugs, but they don't detract too much from a solid foundation. Can't wait to see what it evolves into!

I am avid user of the Steam Controller, and am sad to hear that they are being discontinued. That being said, I'm glad they are 5 bucks right now so that I can stock up on a few spares...

I'm actually quite surprised at the rating, but then noticed it's because of crashes and FPS drops (which I haven't experienced at all). My 980ti is handling it just fine at 60fps on a 1080 monitor with two other monitors running other stuff (haven't tried Surround yet).

The game is a wonderful zenlike experience of exploration and discovery. I've been to a few planets in the same system that already had vastly different ecosystems. It gives a very nice draw of "what's over this hill?" I also visited the nearby space station to check out the trading scene. You can trade goods to a global market or to random ships that land - those ships are where you're gonna find the best deals. You can also eventually buy the ship right out from under them, though I haven't had the creds for that.

Upgrades and blueprints come steadily if you explore for them. You have to be picky on what you gather at first, but it didn't take long for me to gain a few slots in my suit to carry more stuff in. I really like the system that has the suit upgrades take up slots. It encourages you to make decisions between effectiveness and carry capacity.

The game doesn't play nice with Alt Tabbing, however, which I really hope they fix soon. Luckily the game saves for you whenever you find a new waypoint and whenever you enter/exit your ship. Other than that, the game is beautiful, varied, and entrancing. If you enjoy survival and trading route games, this is the game for you.
