Probably one of the most innovative and unique plays on the Left 4 Dead formula of multiplayer-PvE. Highly reccomended.

There is solo-play, but this is not a game for playing Solo. You can play with public matchmaking, but the real fun is had with a group of friends and a willingness to laugh when things go south. There is plenty of fun to be had, the biggest issues you'll probably have will be arguing over who gets to play which role (you can double-up, but having a crew of 4 drillers is just cheating).

There is no PvP, and there is only cooperative play, but if that does not dissuade you then you are going to have a great time with this game. The devs are making great improvements, their roadmap is clear and the openly communicate with the community. The updates are great, there is plenty of content and the community is wonderful. If you are considering this game, you should probably just buy it already.

UPDATE: Everything here is still true, but now there are season passes that are actually free and good. Also, Doretta is best waifu, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

So, I give this a recommend but on the condition that you are playing the game with another person. I am ONLY playing with game co-op with a friend and it has been an absolute riot. So I can not speak for how this game would be as a solo experience, but I do not see myself ever playing it again solo. So take that for what it is worth. Controls are meh on keyboard and do not translate the best, but what do you expect from a Capcom PC port? Looks great, the cutscenes are an action movie on their own. Mercs is back and fun for a break from the story or a way to farm skill points, but maybe a couple hours worth of time at most.

Is it a Resident Evil game in the same sense as the games that came before it? Eeeeeeehhhhhh, would be my answer. I only saw one campaign that had actual "zombies" (though I know 4 and 5 have somewhat left that behind, I still think it is a factor) and generally the scary moments are few and far between.

Is it a survival horror game? Oh hell no. This is an action movie made into a game. Like, I would not be shocked to see direct parts of this game stolen from the Resident Evil movie franchise. My co-op partner and I have called plot points and even one-liners before they happen. This game is on the levels of bad action movie in comparison to Men in Black 3. As a game, if you can laugh at it you will have a blast of a time.

Excepting the Jake/Sherry campaign, that entire campaign is a dumpster fire of hot garbage. Like, wow, it was just so awful that we finished it first just to be done with it.

Fantastic RTS. Perfectly scratches that "Age of Empires II" itch but with Vikings, which makes it oh so much better, Great concept and mechanics, wonderful multiplayer and generally balanced systems. New clans are a wonderful addition and refreshing.

Early Access Review
If all you need is a score: currently an 8.6/10 with room for improvement. You want more, keep reading.

Risk of Rain, 2013. Fantastic game, great rogue-like, does it all right on a graphics requirement a school mac from the 90's could handle. Multiplayer is a bit tougher to pull off with port-forwarding and such but you make it work since the game is just that good.

Devs announce they are making Risk of Rain 2 some years ago. Couple screenshots on twitter and such showing the game will be in three dimensions. Worth getting hyped over but since the team is like 5 people in a shed, you try not to get your hopes up too much.

This game is everything the first one was, just with that amazing third dimension. Same amazing music and same fantastic gameplay (the score will blow you away, it's just as good as the score from the first game). This game just took the original from 2013 and says, "what if we add a third dimension and use a better engine so it looks good in 3-d". They fix what could go wrong in the addition of a third dimension and keep everything else, amazingly, the way it was.

If you aren't sure, if you don't like going in on games that aren't finished....get the first one. It's maybe $10 at full price and if it's even a 5/10 for you, you'll want to be playing this now or when it releases. If you like rogue-likes. this is a game that does it right and is a blast to play with other people.

Have an attack helicopter that plays "Take On Me" while raining death and fire where I direct it, a dog that murders people with a knife while dressed like a SWAT team member and magic balloons that I can attach to and kidnap almost anything I can get to stand still (cars, trucks, AA guns, people, sheep).

10/10 would get lectured by Ocelot again

Sweet lemon tea! This is one hard game to describe and that's a good thing.
If you've been to the forums while trying to decide if you should buy this game, you should.
This game really scratched an itch I'd been having for awhile. It really is both a solid RPG and the story is one hell of a story. It's an old school rpg, it's not going to hand victory to you easily but it's not Dark Souls either. It's weird, it's cruel and it will make you think. Also, you don't want pain mode, it lives up to it's name.
