Honestly, there's just nothing that pulls me into this game. Half the time there's technical issues, and the other half the time when the game wants to work right, it's just kinda boring. And to make it worse, early content is just recycled. The DLCs are wildly inconsistent, and the story is just unbearably annoying. I feel like this game tries to be too many things at once, and never actually achieves at being any of them. It's barely a looter shooter, barely an MMO, the pvp functions but I've seen a fair few hackers... there's just no reason to play this when there are many other games that do any number of these things better.

Once upon a time, holiday events were mini quests that took maybe an hour and gave you funny cosmetics.

Once upon a time, player choice was emphasized that it would be important, that we had a say in the world and our choices may one day matter.

Once upon a time, you had people lining up fpr minigames, with clans competing against eachother.

The old days had their problems, but at least they weren't riddled with greedy microtransactions, month-long grind fests, and unsavory business practices.

This is not ok any more. I don't care if subscription prices go up. I don't care if they make a crappy quest or three. And tbh, I don't mind some cosmetic microtransactions here and there. But whenever we gave an inch they took a mile. Treasure hunter, yak trak, and who knows what else may come. Soon they'll find a reason to make you buy multiple memberships, just cus you can only get some stupid shiny hat from that. They did a lot of good stuff, but years disrespecting not only the playerbase, but the value their own game has to many of us. The wildy got an update to go with, what seems to me, one of the most controversial quests in a while. Where's our player choice we were promised?
Where's the love and the wacky mayhem of a good christmas event?
Why have some of the older parts of the game not been given the love they deserve?
Why kill things like darkscape?

OSRS is managed so much better, and even that isn't playable to me anymore. Leagues is such a great concept, where's that in RS3? Why do subscriptions keep going up if you ALSO sell a ton of cosmetics and other garbage?

This game didn't die cus of EoC. It died cus they thought of the investors and not the players.

It's good, but man is it a niche experience. Thankfully it's my kinda niche, so I loved it, but your mileage may vary.

It's simple, and at the surface level relaxing and fun. But you see very quickly that it's a predatory game built to nickel and dime you for conveniences like reduced crafting times. Some of the content is behind a pay wall, which is usually fine, but you already have so many other things trying to get your money from you, like constant daily ads for new deals. It's obnoxious, and for what this game is, there are so many better options that don't waste your time.

Ok. I love Ark, I've sunk a ton of time into it, and most of the jank I've been willing to look past. But after years, the company refuses to fix any of the visual glitches, the camera shake makes me motion sick and turning it down doesn't work anymore for some, and even on higher resolutions the game looks like it's playing in 240p. It has been YEARS. But instead of fixing it, they're trying to shove more content in and make an Ark 2 when the game is already overly massive and poorly optimized. I want to recommend Ark, but this studio does not deserve the thumbs up. I'm probably still gonna pour hours into this game, but I cannot recommend this game. I genuinely feel bad about buying the DLCs now since they clearly didn't put that money towards finally fixing things

While I may not have much time invested in the game so far, I think for a game like this it's somewhat justifiable considering you get the gist of it after a round or two of playing.

DISCLAIMER: I did receive a beta-key for free from the Devs, and the game is still in early access, so it may be subject to changes/improvements/whathaveyous.

PROS:
-Cute artstyle.
-Simple controls, with a slight learning curve.
-Excellent music.
-Runs like a charm.

CONS:
-Very simple, meaning there's not a lot too it.
-Screen can get really busy at times.

MEHS:
-Short rounds mean you can pick it up and play to kill a few minutes, but it does make it hard to play for extended periods
of time.
-Not a lot of powerups means there's not a huge amount of variety to defending your hive.

It's an incredibly simple, incredibly charming score-attack shoot-em-up. You gotta defend your hive from birds, bugs, bears, and your own inability to dodge a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spider web. The art is charming and colorful, the music sets the tone well, and the difficulty isn't *too* crazy. It can get surprisingly intense, especially since pickups are randomized, so not getting some bombs or drones for a while (while sometimes annoying), can really put the pressure on to prioritize what you gotta kill. Honestly, there's not really much else to say about the game right now other than it runs well, and is extremely satisfying to play.

I'm hoping in the future to see a bit more variety in the ways you can defend your hive, as well as enemy types and possibly different bees, and a way to compare scores just between certain people (friends, or with instanced scoreboards), which would go a long way towards increasing the life of the game. Even as it is now though, it's a wonderful game to try and compete for a high score with a friend or amongst streamers.

Also I beat the Devs at their own game FeelsGoodMan :^)
