My Game of the Year in 2020. Proof that you can have company policies that forbid crunch time and force employees to take vacation and still deliver a 40-100 hour game (HowLongToBeat .com) that's chock full of content. I'm 10 hours in and feel like I've barely scratched the surface and I've enjoyed the heck out of every minute so far.

You are Zagreus, son of Hades, God of the Underworld, who's trying to break out of his father's realm and reach Mount Olympus. You go on roguelite runs with the aid of the other Gods of Greek Mythology, every time learning something or requiring upgrades or new skills. With several weapons to choose from for your runs and several gods each giving your weapons unique upgrades for that particular run, the build combinations seem almost endless, ensuring that each run truly feels unique.

Just like any Supergiant game so far (Bastion 2011, Transistor 2014 and Pyre 2017), Hades features a gorgeous art style, interesting mechanics, the isometric camera and a great soundtrack; I sat quiet, unable to move, for 3-4 minutes when my action-packed run was all of a sudden surprised with a beautiful song that introduced a new character I hadn't met before. And I was 20+ attempts in at that point!

Top all of this off with a staggering amount of voiced lines by a talented cast, the possiblity to renovate Hades' home base, a vast number of unlockable items, skilltrees, a ton of possibilities to upgrade your weapons to suit you AND the possibility to PET CERBERUS the three-headed dog!

And all this for $20. Twenty fricking dollars.

It's not just the game of the year. It's the bargain of a century.
