I swore an Oath of Moment to protect and defend the Chapter's recruiting worlds from all threats, xenos or otherwise.

I will make good my oath. For the Emperor. For the Imperium. For the Chapter!

As previous reviews said, hacker fantasy extraordinaire. If you like four or more of the following, this game is for you:

  • Worming your way through logic/memory "puzzles";
  • Good typing/keyboarding skills;
  • Relaxing electronic beatz;
  • Command Line Interface;
  • Amusing .txt files;
  • Lord Nikon/CrashOverride=ZeroCool/AcidBurn/PhantomPhreak/CerealKiller;
  • Want to indulge your snooping fantasy without causing harm or loss to real people;
  • Wished you still had rollerblades;

There's very little to say that the dedicated, vocal and truly helpful CK2 community has not already said. Grand Strategy is the name of the genre, but everyone knows the game is really both a broad and deep Medieval Dynasty Simulator.

The learning curve is often described as steep, but it is only as steep as you want it to be. Want proficiency in all the subsystems so you can build a dominant hegemonic empire? Just want to fool around with history and see what happens? The game will happily take all comers.

If new to the game, don't worry about the DLC avalanche. Try out the base game and see if it's your cup of tea. (Hint: if you like history or strategy or power or maps or even sweeping dynastic stories, it will be your cup of tea. If you like all of these things, then welcome home.)

The Banner Saga grips me in a way that few if any games have. I am compelled to play, for the sake of the characters, for the sake of those that depend on them. My behaviour is driven, moreso than ever before, by character rather than the efficacy of the min/max.

Also, when I take a break, my five year old son promises to be good so he can play a little more later.
