I really wanted to like this game but it's just not looking like that's possible. I'm sure a lot of what's said in this review and the huge list of mostly negative reviews is subject to change eventually but man... This feels like the worst battlefield launch I've ever had the pleasure of taking part in.
I personally don't mind all the bugs similar to the hovercraft scaling skyscrapers, I think that stuff is hilarious and should be enjoyed while it's still around. There's a lot of other stuff in the game's current state that's really hard to look past though.
I feel as if they just decided to throw the book out the window and bail on everything that worked in previous games.

The squad system feels pretty irrelevant to me.
You can't create your own squad and lock it to just friends like you can in previous titles. You can change which squad you're in but you don't have the choice of who to join unless you keep swapping squads. As far as I know there's no options as squad leader to select an objective to attack/defend or any sort of give orders button.

There's no Global text chat so the days of seeing/participating in trash talking the enemy is gone.
No options to change to the other team, no options for custom servers outside of the Portal mode.
Since there's no custom servers, there's no map rotations or the ability to pick which map to play on so you're stuck to normal matchmaking style which makes me feel like I only am able to play on the same two maps every time I boot up the game.

I really don't care for the specialist system they've got in place. I don't necessarily think it's a bad system, I love the idea of having the ability to run around as a medic and have access to a rocket launcher. That was probably my biggest gripe of previous titles, I always felt locked to engineer when playing, I just think that the bit where they give poses and voice lines on the end of match screens and the main menu screens is a bit pointless and unneeded.

On the topic of freedom when it comes to what equipment you can run with... One of the most annoying additions they've ever thought of was adding armor plating as an equipment slot. I feel like I'm over here playing Warzone or something half the time. I feel like every single person I shoot at is running armor and fully kitted PP-Bizon SMG. Sure, it's only 20 added hp, but that 20hp is enough to change the outcome of a gunfight. When I decided to finally give it a go, it saved me on more the one occasion. I think it's best to just remove it entirely or only give you one instead of multiple.

When it comes to weapons and maps;
Any weapon outside of the SMG/Sniper Category feels pointless to run. Might as well be using a paintball gun, hard to tell if it's the weapon balancing or just the atrocious server tick-rate/hit registration. As stated before, the PP-Bizon is pretty much the go to, at least for right now, I fully expect it to get changed.
I'm pretty sure I haven't played on all of the maps yet but most of them feel like the game is designed to just be a running simulator. The added number to the player count is incredible but even with 128 players in a match some of the area's just feel empty and way too open and barren for no reason what so ever.

As usual with a new BF title, the server de-sync is awful and the hit registration sucks. I've fallen through the map a total of 7 times in my very short time playing the game, mainly when trying to cross bridges and stuff. I've been killed through entire buildings from vehicles that had no lines of sight on me.
Some vehicles, like the little bird, have splash damage effects on their 20mm cannons, sometimes it's hard to even notice that you're getting gunned down by one due to the effect not even rendering in on your screen.
I've lost more than a few gunfights due to the server/game just locking up entirely and freezing.
I know most people didn't care for battlelog but I personally like to see my soldier stats, this doesn't have any of that.
3d spotting seems to be gone? There's some form of ping system available but it's just not the same and looks to be squad only.
The UI sucks. Seems to only be two game modes currently available, no options for Demolition, Rush (outside of Portal) or even TDM.
Every time you respawn, you're locked into a stupid animation to check the gun chamber to see if it's loaded, it's impossible to cancel and can get you killed so easily.

The only real plus to this game is that you can mod your weapon mid fights and swap out attachments for close/long range, medic has the ability to carry an AT or AA rocket, and the ranged healing gun (I love that thing).

There's plenty more I can say but honestly, I'm bored of typing. Take one quick look at the current overall review rating and I think you get the idea. I'm just glad I had EA play and didn't put 80-100USD down for this.

I played the first Titanfall and honestly loved every minute of it, I never got around to buying this until very recent but I would recommend picking this up for the campaign alone.
The guns feel great and are fun to use, the movement in my opinion is still one of the best out there for fast paced shooters. Wall running with a double jump from the jump suit feels so smooth. I also don't know how anyone couldn't like the idea of running around in a titan, I mean c'mon..

I've read some other reviews that comment on the lack of population for multiplayer but the numbers are very high right now due to some recent apex news so I can't comment too much about it's normal avg player count. I will say however that I've put about 3-4 hours into multiplayer and it's just as fun as it was in the original Titanfall.

My biggest complaint is that I still had to reinstall Origin even though this is on steam.

Worth a pickup, especially if on sale.

A decent amount of time has passed since this game has gotten released, I've heard nothing but great things about it and it's been recommended to me on more than one occasion so I was really looking forward to playing it. The game seems like it would be right up my alley for a good single player story driven game...

However, before purchasing the game I noticed there were more than a few reviews that were negative/down-votes and the majority of them were talking about either performance or the game crashing very often. I normally ignore these ones (and I did) as everyone can have a different experience but unfortunately, in my case, I'm also having this ridiculous crashing issue.
I was stuck on the first intro mission for a good 30 minutes, give or take, for the loading/shader optimization stuff. I finally got past it and assumed the freezing/crashing was over but upon loading into the next, it crashed again. Reloaded one last time, got a little bit further, managed to walk across the road this time and bam, frozen again, no error messages, just not responding.

I heard of a potential fix involving downgrading graphics drivers but I think I'm gonna save myself the trouble and just refund the game until further notice. I hope they come out with an update or a new fix for this because the game is gorgeous and I'd really love to play it.

I'll start off by saying that I played through it entire and ended up getting 100% completion in 60ish hours
I picked the game up on the last winter sale and managed to play through it entirely so I can't say I didn't get my money's worth out of it
With that being said, I'm not so sure that I'd really "recommend" this to anybody... That's not to say it's a bad game, I didn't think it was "bad" and I'll hopefully be able to explain that a bit

To start with the good, I think the world that this game has is phenomenal. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic environments and I think the world itself is designed really well. I found myself using the photo mode a lot and I normally never touch it but some of the area's are just beautiful. I spent a lot of time running around just picking up everything I could because I'm a loot hoarder.
The Machine creatures are also pretty interesting to me, I thought it was a nice twist instead of having just normal dinosaurs or whatever.
The combat was probably the one and only thing that kept me playing throughout the entire time. I ended up playing through on ultra hard mode and considering you could get pretty much one shot, you had to really focus on hitting each machines weak points and using the right equipment to take them down. I thought it was pretty enjoyable, even if frustrating sometimes but that was probably just down to me enjoying the spear more than the bow. I remember reading that people thought the Thunderjaw was the hardest enemy in the game, I didn't think this was the case. Those damned glint hawks and Stormbird thing were an absolute nightmare for me.

Unfortunately, that's where the "good" really ends for me.

I picked the game up because I was looking for a pretty heavy story focused game to sink some time into... Considering it was nominated for story rich game in the 2020 Steam Awards, I figured it had a pretty good shot to be exactly what I was looking for. I didn't end up enjoying it like most, if not all of the positive reviews say.
I can't tell if I played through the game "wrong" or what, but I ended up doing what I do in most games with questing, and that is go to a new town/area, completing all the side quests for that area and then moving on to the next area with the main storyline. I ended up over-leveling the main storyline quest by like 30 levels, even though the levels don't really have any impact on the game (as far as I could tell anyway)

To start with the main story (spoiler free), I was pretty bored by the time I really "started getting into it". I wanted to learn more about the machines but I wasn't invested in *any* of the characters the game had to offer, aside from the first one you meet and then the character named "Sylense", and that was just because I recognized the VA from his other work/games.
I felt like most, if not all of the characters I met were pretty lifeless and uninteresting. Aloy, the character you play as had a good voice to her but her facial expressions/eyes didn't match what the energy of her voice was giving off.
The first 10 hours I was in the game I didn't have any issues with this, about 10/15hrs in I started to noticing long gaps in dialog during cutscenes (like a full second or two where both the people were just staring at each other instead of talking) and it just seemed really awkward and almost unfinished. I also saw some cutscenes where the characters in the scene were essentially teleporting between transitions like a jump cut... I wasn't really happy seeing this considering the animations and stuff were really good and then all of a sudden the characters were jumping around... Just seemed kind of lame but I'm sure most people just look past this kind of thing.
I was pretty surprised that a lot of people, if not most, praise the story of this game but maybe that just comes down to a me thing.

Moving onto the other questlines-

I spent the first 40 hours of my time in the game completing all of the side quests that I had come across and I was about ready to just give up and uninstall the game just due to how repetitive they are. The characters you meet have almost no significance to anything that happens in the game (aside from maybe a couple) and the side quests/errands are almost all the same layout.

> New NPC with quest > lost item/person > go to where it/they were last seen > follow tracks/examine blood/item > find person or item/fight machine for item > backtrack to original NPC

I know most games with a side questline aren't the most interesting but it just felt like such a chore to keep doing when it had no impact on the game at the end of the playthrough. I think in total for the main story there's only like 20 missions? The side stuff just seemed completely pointless to do unless you were going for a 100% completion... but I suppose that's kind of the point? I don't know. I just wasn't happy having to do the same almost brainless task of following tracks and pressing "e" on the item to "examine" it and then just be done and only getting a few shards as rewards. Eventually during the DLC area you do come across an NPC with some side quests that offers to upgrade your weapons and I feel like even that would have made them less annoying and more rewarding if they were in the base game.

Moving away from the story elements to try and wrap it up a bit

When you learn how to override the machines to use them against other machines, I was super hyped because this meant you were able to use them as mounts to move about the pretty large world. That was almost immediately shattered for me. I don't know if it's a keyboard/mouse issue, but the mounts felt SUPER clunky the entire time to where I pretty much opted to do the entire game on foot. They would randomly stray from going in a straight line and suddenly start jumping over objects and rocks that I wasn't even really near. Going up even some of the smallest hills that, you, as the character, could walk up just fine, the mounts just wouldn't walk up at all.

Hunter's Lodge challenges..... I might be the only one that thinks this, maybe not... These were the most annoying things in the entire game. The only real reason they're "challenging" is down to the utterly ridiculous short timer that they throw at you to increase the difficulty to get the golden box rewards. I had the most frustrations in the entire game just trying to get these out of the way. The rewards should have been a lot better, at least for the first time you get the blazing sun box. I wouldn't mind if you got the current rewards you get now if you just kept on repeating them, but I normally spent more than I got back trying to attempt the challenges that I failed over and over again. Some of them were a little too easy, some of them were a nightmare and made me want to pull my hair out.

This is starting to get pretty long and I feel a little bad since just from a glance, the bad stuff (imo) kind of overpowers the good but honestly, I don't really have much good to say other than the world/machines designs. If you've read this far, great. I hope I explained it good enough, if not oh well. I tried. If you're anything like me and enjoy post-apocalyptic worlds to explore, you might find something with this but otherwise I couldn't really say that I think it's worth getting. Nothing else really kept me other than the world and combat.

> TLDR

World Design, good, very beautiful
Characters/expressions seem lifeless and uninteresting
Story wasn't all that captivating for me
Side quests were extremely boring and most had no effect on the end game story
Mounts were extremely clunky
Hunter's Lodge Challenges were extremely annoying and felt unrewarding

I hope to see things I mentioned improved in a second game, assuming they decide to make one. Even though most of the is negative points, it was no means a "bad" game. I at least managed to get my money's worth out of it.

TIL steam has a review character limit....

Ended up playing this due to the sheer amount of art I've seen posted around online... It's not particularly hard or a super long game but I enjoyed it. I could just be small brain but the puzzles were interesting enough for me.

I can't really say anything bad about it...
It's free, took about an hour to beat, (69 minutes, according to steam B)
Good soundtrack and I'm a fan of the art style/demon girls.

I bought this game when it came out and didn't even end up playing for two hours before letting it sit for over a year without touching it...
I was pretty frustrated at launch and didn't really want to put the time into learning the game and was too invested in other VR games at the time and if I recall correctly there wasn't many songs either so it was pretty easy for me to dismiss the game entirely.

With that being said, I recently revisited it and haven't really been able to put it down. I often see this game compared to osu! or just called "Beat Saber with guns" but I really can't say that I agree at all. Sure, it's a Rhythm game just like any other but it doesn't play the same in the slightest.

When I first jumped into it, the game seemed almost impossible with the flying melee notes and the crazy wide range of play. All I can say is, just stick with it... Once you put enough time into the game and start from the lower difficulties (don't jump straight to expert no matter if you've played a rhythm game before... or do it, I don't know... I'm not your mother) it will eventually just click with you and you'll soon be able to start doing the expert maps. After you reach the point of that, pretty much every aspect about the game is super fun... I personally think that the melee notes are a lot of fun and a weird kind of refresher from the typical "follow the rail" or "avoid the bomb" thing, even if they still confuse me occasionally. It just has a pretty long and annoying learning curve but it's well worth it, in my opinion. The game also has a campaign mode that is pretty decent and I suggest doing it, you get to unlock new guns and arena stages to use, plus the very last level is really cool.

The community is another reason to pick up the game, while I haven't been around too long as of the time of writing this, the community is another big reason why I have revisited and didn't just drop the game and put in the time to learn. There's a Modding Discord server where the members of the community create new maps/songs/charts, whatever the term you'd like to use, for you to play and enjoy, along with a bunch of custom gun models, arena's, and other mods. It's been a decent amount of time since I had first played it and there's now a decently sized library of custom stuff that is available to play.

To address some other reviews
I've had no issues playing this game on the valve index
There is an option in the settings to disable the song getting quieter on miss (I'm not sure why this was really a thing but the game does have an option to disable it.)
Beat Saber and Audica are just not comparable in the slightest, just because you play on expert plus on beat saber doesn't mean you can jump straight into it on here, take that as you will.
The game has gotten more songs since launch and with the addition of the community made maps, there's a lot to play now.

TLDR -
Yes, I suggest picking it up, maybe get it on sale for Christmas or something? The game is hard but a lot of fun once you get past the pretty tough learning curve.
Join the Modding Discord to get custom songs and guns and other cool stuff and interact with the community. Can't stress that part enough.

I figured I'd update this with some actual information instead of just "ok"

This game has changed a lot since I put the majority of my close to 500 hours on origin into it... I'm not a fan of all the changes, I like some of them... It's kind of hard to judge how things are going to be considering it changes so much...
As much as I complain and say that deep down I hate this game with a burning passion, it's the only battle royal game to ever get my attention for more than one match. The guns are pretty unique to most shooters in my opinion.. The movement is really great and smooth, I played a lot of Titanfall back in the day and this game definitely gave me what I wanted out of that game in terms of more "pilot" combat. I just wish it had wall running...

In terms of maps, I will forever love kings canyon before they nuked skull town, the ice map is complete garbage, and the newest one is alright.
Legends constantly shift per patch so there's not much to say other than I think they just need more movement based legends...

I'm glad it came over to steam so I was able to ditch the horrible platform that is Origin.
No matter what happens, the normal 3's mode will forever be Third Party Simulator.

TLDR, Yes. Buy it. Best VR Game I've honestly ever played, nothing has quite topped it for me.

This game is by far one of the best games I've ever played in Virtual Reality, if not *the* best. The story is great, at least coming from someone who had not played any other half life game prior to owning this. The environments, the lighting, the sound design, the music, just about everything was wonderful and you could tell this game was made for VR.

The world just feel so real to be in, even from just the first section where you're able to draw on the windows with the markers. I feel like I can't even really express how it feels to be in the world of this game. The darkness actually makes you feel tense and even a bit scared while you're trying to find your way out while being chased by headcrabs. Getting jumped on by a headcrab is a terrifying experience, gravity gloves are such an amazing tool to have and I love using them even if it's just to pick up the insane amount of props that you're able to interact with. Without spoiling anything, Jeff is SUCH a cool dude and really added a lot for me personally. I thought it was such a great design choice and honestly I really can't recommend the game enough. If you happen to buy VR this is one hundred percent a must have, even if you have never played anything Half Life related before.

Edited -

I recently replayed this again after so many months to pick up the last of the few achievements I needed to get 100%, the gnome run included and I'm still surprised just how good it feels.

It's had some updates since I had played to include minor things like liquid in bottles and honestly it just all adds to the experience. I didn't think it would really change much but after picking up the first bottle and seeing the liquid inside move exactly like how it would was a really weird feeling. It almost felt to me like it had real weight to it even though I was just holding the controller in reality. They also added in a developer commentary mode to explain some game related stuff that you're able to pick up and listen in on, I found a lot of it really interesting and it might be worth revisiting if that sort of thing could interest you.

In my original review I had said that the only downside I had was due to the index controllers randomly grabbing and dropping items by itself. This is not really the case, I think I just wasn't used to them at the time since I had gotten my index a few weeks before playing... Everything felt really smooth now since I've had a ridiculous amount of time in VR since playing so I've gotten used to it by now.
