this game is beautiful and fun, but so much of it feels like there was a need to cut corners, or something's missing.

the art style is very pretty, but all i can see in most levels are just oodles and oodles of brushes with just solid color and no variety. i do realize it's part of the art style, but it just doesn't feel right to me. althought it might just be that this game was less for me aesthetically, unlike GRIS which i played just before Neva.

i would've liked more platform puzzles. there's too much fighting to my taste, and it's shoved in so many places it feels like a new toy for the devs that they wanted to show off, when they couldn't come up with anything else for a segment.

the ending is just outright lame and feels quite lazy. animation is hard and time consuming, but really?

despite this, i did enjoy the game a lot.

first and most of all, ♥♥♥♥ EA. now that's out of the way:

i believe i first played this game in 2012. i have always loved the aesthetics of it. that aspect is flawless. even to this day, it looks great. the characters are delightful, but i'm a sucker for the Cheshire Cat, after all.

the gameplay itself is a little lackluster, and gets old quite fast. it's clear where there was ambition and ideas, but not enough money to get there. the levels feel empty and too big, and all the platforming feels like some kind of padding rather than an actual part of the game. i got through this game a few years ago in about 10 hours - if it was half of that, i'd call it perfect, lengthwise.

it is pretty much mandatory to play this game with a controller. some things just simply won't work without, and even though there are ways around that, those ways are sadly far from enjoyable.

is this game perfect? absolutely not. if you're looking for a modern game without many bugs, you won't be having a good time with Alice: Madness Returns. it is flawed in many ways. still, it retains its place as one of my favorite games of all time. that might have something to do with the nostalgia-tinted glasses i wear a lot, but the influence of this game in my own life, especially creatively and artistically, is undeniable.

try it (as long as you have the chance. who knows when EA decides to pull the plug again). that's all i can say. you might love it, you might hate it. but that's the case with everything, isn't it?

Zurks use partially the same sound FX that I heard the first time in the Forestia video game from 1998 - or the sound is just very very similar. For that alone it's a thumbs up.

Also pretty kitty.

i never want to play this game again why are there two missable enemies and one of them is almost at the very end of the game AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

other than that i very much enjoyed the revisit to this PS2 classic, very solid port. still looks weird tho because it's just SO. CRISP.

the original Stanley Parable was the sole reason i created a Steam account in 2013. enough said.

i love this game. sweet and short, the style is great, and the art in general is gorgeous. i'm a sucker for gore, and the movie adaptation of sweeney todd is one of my favorite things, so this hit a spot quite hard.

while yes, the lack of being able to queue actions is a tad annoying, but it's not difficult to work around it. such action queue could work as a nice upgrade, though.

some achievements (chop people up in various ways, noticed this only on sausages and steaks) don't unlock after the story has been completed - but feels like a bug rather than a feature.

secret word: love

thanks for making me cry, but i should've seen that coming. "difficult question" is a strange term, isn't it.

game kept crashing on menus, twice as i only tried to get to settings. GPU ramps up to 100% and the game crashes - nothing fixes this, except lowering the resolution or render scale to something i can't see anything on when playing. was only able to play the tutorial with AMD upscaling on, with graphics on low, and vsync on. and yes, my specs surpass the recommended.

not that it matters, controlling the mount feels so bad that i cannot fathom how people play this game. could've probably given this game at least a chance if it would actually run, but no. avoid like plague until the devs know what optimization is.

an absolute blast, but definitely not worth the full price tag - wouldn't recommend for more than 10 bucks max, since the game is quite fast to 100%.
