Incredible, beautiful art, amazing music and tight controls. I had so much fun exploring this world and discovering it's secrets. An absolute must play if you're a fan of old school Zelda games and a souls-like formula.

Brilliant, visually stunning and an auditory landscape full of interesting and beautiful sounds. A wonderful toy to play with whenever the mood strikes.

So I'm admittedly not too far into the game but I'd like to share some initial impressions:

Incredible atmosphere in this game, the top notch sound design in this title caught me by surprise as I didn't have such high expectations on that front. I've been playing this on my TV with a full receiver setup and while this game doesn't offer surround sound (no surprises there), the stereo quality is excellent with a lot of lovely sound effects and music that really pulled me into the game. In my experience, it's somewhat rare for an indie title to flex in this area, so it's a nice treat.

Presentation is also really good, no menu overload here to get lost in. The overall world design appears to contain a central hub area with different merchants etc.. that you can unlock and upgrade via collectibles/currency but I won't dive too far into that to keep the surprises alive for anyone interested in playing. Main takeaway here is that on first glance there appears to be some decent progression paths.

Getting into the gameplay means interacting the boat man at the edge of the hub area, which will bring up the world map, you choose a destination and set sail.

Levels are laid out nicely as well, so far I haven't encountered any mazes which is actually a plus in my books. Combat is really really good, incredibly fluid with lovely animations and a bit more fast paced than I was expecting, which again, is a nice treat. It's giving me a mixed vibe of The Eternal Castle and Hyperlight Drifter, both excellent games to draw inspiration from.

Occasional jank during some of the early cut scenes I've seen so far, nothing earth shattering or game breaking. Hopefully an update at some point will address that but if not, it's not really a big deal. An example of this would be after the intro cut scene, having my character standing in the first level, unable to move and then suddenly a cut scene starts, then finishes and I continue on my way. Maybe I'm nitpicking here but it stood out.

So there you go, my initial impressions so far. I expect I'll be playing it for a decent amount of time this evening and I'm really happy I picked it up.

10/10

The controls for this game struck me as very awkward when I first started playing, but relatively quickly I began to adapt from my usual perception of "responsive" controls. Every punch, every jump felt like I had to lean into it. Like I was building inertia with my movements. Once that clicked in my head the game really started to open up and my frustration quickly evaporated.

The presentation of this game is absolutely mesmerizing. The art style is both gorgeous and incredibly unique amongst contemporary titles and the audio was equally impressive. I love seeing creativity flourish through limitation and this game is the perfect example of the concept.

I also really loved how the story unfolded, the game wasn't trying to spoon-feed me every bit of lore it could muster. Some things were left intentionally vague and I had to work to put the pieces together. I appreciate it when a game respects the intellect of the player this way. The setting was a futuristic post-apocalyptic environment where technology is in atrophy and civilization has heavily regressed to more carnal survivalist instincts. There was enough variety to the experience where I wasn't ever really bored, but it was also concise enough that I was able to navigate my way through the main plot with a couple friends in a single evening. The final boss in the game presented a rather unexpected ramp in challenge with a puzzle that took many attempts to decipher. It was nearing the point of frustration where we nearly threw in the towel, but after passing the controller back and forth we finally nailed it. Another reminder that this is an experience worth sharing with friends.

There's definitely some replayability here as well, with post game modes that I think are trying to tell the story from another perspective, but I haven't come back to it to know for sure. Perhaps one day I'll do that. Until then though, I'm left with some great memories navigating a remarkably trippy experience that left me extremely impressed to stumble on such a gem.

I really want to love this game and admittedly I haven't played it for very long but the controls are really painful and prevent me from enjoying it.

Tons of fun, reminds me of towerfall with way more twitchy controls.

The game looks amazing, I love the art style and the combat is a lot of fun but... this is very clearly early access. I think it could use some music while you're playing through the temple and there are some balance issues that I expect will eventually be worked out. This game reminds me a lot of Hades which isn't a bad thing.

Feeling reasonable about my purchase and played briefly this evening, I think there's definitely something worthwhile here that will benefit greatly with some polish. Will definitely wait for a few updates and come back to this.

Pure garbage, runs like garbage, is monetized straight to hell and doesn't even look good. Don't waste your cash. I can't believe they are charging for this with the amount of "micro" transactions littered inside it. I'll never support Capcom or Street Fighter ever again.

I bought this game when I was going through a break up, so I was in a particularly fragile state of mind when I completed my first play-through. I provide this review as-is with the disclaimer that your mileage will obviously vary from my unique bias. I found the experience to be quite cathartic and it was the perfect time for me to enjoy this title.

This is a charming and delightful casual game that is both touching and relaxing. You get to explore Hawk Peak at your own pace while finding plenty of collectibles along the way to assist you on your journey. At first it's difficult to scale the mountain, but the more feathers you acquire the easier it becomes. There is no one single path to completing your hike, multiple routes can be discovered. Completely open ended game play with a lot to discover and heart warming dialogue as you meet a plethora of NPCs.

I found the visual aesthetic was extremely pleasing to my eyes and the detail to sound design was also incredible. For me, this is one of those short and sweet indie games that you play to feel good and then become so enamoured with it that you evangelize the game whenever you have company over. Everyone usually walks away delighted.
