This isn't the tight and immersive world of Vanilla - nor is it the clear and memorable narrative of Downpour. The Watcher is something entirely different - bordering on Anti-Rain World at points. You'll get lost far more often than you would in the others, you'll DIE far more often than the others and you will (maybe) get more frustrated than the others.

I still LOVED 80%~ of this DLC, which is a lot more than I can say for most.

I do believe all the aforementioned problems are largely the point - in a ludonarrative kinda way. You're meant to feel out-of-place and alone in every region you find - that's kind of this Scug's entire personality. It's the initial endearing cluelessness you felt in the base game cranked up to 11.

You really need to read into the themes of the DLC far more than you would otherwise - which I know will be disliked by a lot of people used to Pearls and Downpour spoon-feeding you story. But what it does say I found fascinating, especially on the topic of Cycles and Ascension .

Presentation is flawless, while trailers showed mostly regions from well known mods - they only make up about 15% of the total world. The music is rich and varied, capable of both diagetic immersion and intense combat tracks. I'd argue there's tracks in here that rival Kayava!

It's got problems - no doubt. ESPECIALLY the sheer time sink required for the hidden ending. The DLC gives you abilities to negate the typical threats of Vanilla, only so they can throw even more extreme challenges at you. I also agree that this needed a LOT more playtesting in terms of progression and backtracking. Though these are things that the developers have confirmed will be tweaked in future additions.

Overall, if you're looking to relive the moment you scaled the Wall and looked over that vast horizon... have a Watch™

Heist I was already my favourite Steamworld game, I say WAS because this game is incredible.

An improvement on all fronts from the original;
Every class is fun and viable (especially melee!)
Weapon design is on par with the creativity of the Outsider DLC.
Despite classes not being character-locked the 2 exclusive perks for each character makes them MORE unique,
The multi-classing system has so much emergent gameplay potential,
Controller support and optimisation is fantastic - no need to manually re-edit files,
Rewind turn and abort mission remove any frustration on the higher difficulties,
Even more SPG tracks than before,
Fully-realised world-building that ties the rest of the games together perfectly,
One of the best stories-shown-through-gameplay I've ever witnessed,
An enjoyable and fun overworld shoot-em-up system,
Dramatically increased amount of game length without overstaying its welcome,
Constantly new and engaging enemies and level gimmicks
...and I could honestly go on for another 100 examples!

The only complaint I have with this game is a lack of a NG+ like the first one, for I wish to replay the game in its entirety over and over again!

Much, MUCH better world design than the base game.
Actual unique dungeons that don't waste your time with little rewards.
NO and I repeat NO repeat bosses.
Bullgoat-tier armour that doesn't look hideous.
Clear and concise NPC quests with more player choice than base game.
THE BEST NPC FROMSOFT HAS EVER MADE
Fist weapons that are fun to use?? No way!
Clarification on a few lore tidbits we had nothing to go on before.
The final boss doesn't invalidate faith builds :)

HOWEVER:
Unneeded damage-creep on every single enemy despite this entire DLC being locked behind a late game boss.
Poor optimisation in a lot of areas for some reason?
Unlike in DS3 your base game ending choices have 0 impact here, despite there being a ton of loose threads already there.
With this being the last ER content update, a ton of storylines and lore will now be forever unfinished. (Sorry, Tanith gets no closure.)
A lot of the new craftables exist seemingly to only pad out cookbooks.

Oh and, the final boss is just a rehash of an already existing mid-game boss with nothing interesting added when the DLC teases multiple WAY MORE INTERESTING candidates for it.
That and most of its attacks flashbang your screen and destroy your fps <:)

Seriously, would it have killed them to make the final boss Godwyn or Rykard in their prime, or hell even Miquella himself instead of him turning into a scarf? instead of that monumental letdown in both boss design and lore...
