What I expected: game where you play as cute cat

What I got: game with a rich story and lore, fantastic gameplay and music, adorable interactions, where you also happen to play a cat.

I mentioned in my earlier review that I could not recommend the game at this time due to the near constant stuttering even on high-end graphics cards. This problem has since been alleviated significantly, at least on my system. The game still feels rather poorly optimized and crashes every few hours, but it is definitely playable and a lot of fun. A must-buy for any Soulsborne fan.

For everyone who is not already a Soulsborne fan, you'll have to make your own judgment. In my opinion (and this comes from someone who has finished a Bloodborne All Bosses BL4 run), Elden Ring is by far the hardest Soulsborne game to date. Many bosses have multi-hit attacks (meaning attacks that hit faster than you can dodge, requiring you to remove yourself to a safe distance instead) and many boss attacks straight up one-shot you if you get hit by them, even with good gear and levels. Even non-boss enemies deal significant amounts of damage and drain significant amounts of stamina per block. The good old "become Havel the Rock, block everything" playstyle is no longer viable in Elden Ring. The game requires a more tactical approach to most encounters than any other Soulsborne game to date. I like it personally, but it's not something I would recommend to a total beginner.

What a fantastic game! I'm not usually much of a racing game person, but this game is not a racing game. It's a 3D platformer in which you just happen to control a car. And it works beautifully. All the mechanics and controls come together to form a wonderfully coherent whole. You can even take your car and, through the use of really difficult but fully intended techniques, fly over whole stages!

Anyone who's a fan of platformers or TrackMania should love this game.

I wish I could recommend this game, but I can't. Even after all the updates – which did fix a great number of problems – the core of the game hasn't changed. The world still feels ... dead. Artificial. I want to go to a club and dance. I want to sit in a bar and order copious amounts of dubious-looking liquids. I want to get my hair done at a barber and get tattoos in a tattoo shop. I want to ride on a train or take a sky taxi, join a gang and beat up some rando who didn't pay his bills.

But you can't do any of these things. You can count on one hand the number of places where you can actually interact with the game world. The rest of the time you're just going through the motions, doing what feels like the same missions over and over, just in different locales.

This game is not an RPG. It's an open-world shooter. If you're looking for the chance to immerse yourself in a cyberpunk world, you'll need to look elsewhere.

You click on the water to build buildings. The game puts a building where you clicked. You can then click on top of the building or to the side of the building for additional building blocks.

Except it's much more complex than that, because depending on the exact configuration of the blocks and all the surrounding blocks, the appearance of the building(s) completely changes. You can make harbors, parks, lighthouses, bridges, benches, stone walls, and much more just by clicking with your mouse. As a programmer, the algorithm powering all this fascinates me.

It's Tetris but cinematic and with multiplayer. All the game modes are well-designed. If you like Tetris, you'll love this game. Whether it's worth dishing out half the price of an ordinary AAA title for it is a decision only you can make.

If you love Monster Hunter, you'll love this game. There's really not much more to say. The game has flaws, as does any game, but none major enough to point out here. It's a natural iteration to the Monster Hunter franchise with cool new moves and abilities. Yes, some weapons got the short end of the stick where balancing is concerned while others got an unreasonably long stick (looking at you, Longsword). But that's okay because I like long sticks.

Also, the wirebug movement system is phenomenal.

Best 2D platformer in the world as far as I'm concerned. The gameplay and controls are extremely fluid, the levels are beautiful and well-designed (so well, in fact, that anytime you think you've found an unintended mechanic, think again, because it's probably intended), the story is great, and the music is amazing.

There's something in this game which I refer to as "flow". Every level has its own flow. The game requires a lot of good timing and cycles, but all you really need to do is submerge yourself in the flow of the level and you won't have to worry about timing at all. It's extremely satisfying.

Do note that the game is also extremely difficult. It starts out fairly easy, but each level introduces additional mechanics. By the end, you'll have to use techniques which are generally reserved only for speedruns (because they are quite difficult to pull off). This also results in the game having an extremely satisfying progression. You don't really level up, in that sense—you don't unlock more abilities as the game goes on, for example. Everything is available to you from the very beginning. It's just that each level gradually requires the use of more and more of these abilities, until the end of the game, where you have to use your entire arsenal if you hope to make it.

This game has the most clunky and silly combat system I've ever seen. What makes it worse is that proceeding in the main quest locks out the combat instructor for the time being but gives you some encounters that you simply can't win without grinding your combat skills.

And I'm not talking your personal skills. I'm talking levels. Because in this game you can't do anything without levels. It's ironic that the game proclaims absolute realism but fails to deliver on some essential levels. Hit an opponent thirty times? Shoot them in the face ten times with deadly arrows? Nope, not dead. Instead, they're going to get a lucky hit in and one-shot you after a ten-minute fight. The encounters are tedious and little fun, and the game's good story and voice acting does not manage to make up for it.

This game is a good example of why "realism" in video games is not something you should strive for.

There are also numerous game-breaking bugs that I've experienced in the first ten hours alone, like story triggers breaking and forcing you to reload to progress, or NPCs getting stuck in an animation during combat, allowing you to kill them without them fighting back, as well as a bunch of clipping issues (bushes are now my #1 enemy) and crashes.

As always, this review indicates my own opinion only. I'm not claiming objectivity. I'm just used to fluid and dynamic freeform combat systems in the vein of Dark Souls or Skyrim, and Kingdom Come disappointed me in that regard. Because combat is such an essential part of the game, the other parts of the game—while good—cannot make up for it for me.

This is Undertale as a visual novel.

In other words, it's great. Go play it right now. It is, after all, free.
