Chad: The Game

Disclaimer: this game was put together in an era long before anyone gave a rat's ass about political correctness and trying not to offend anybody; if you're thin-skinned and completely devoid of humor, look elsewhere.

Even after all these years, this game still manages to send chills down my spine every time I go back to replay it.

On top of offering some top shelf horror, the gunplay, combat, story and atmosphere are all among the finest of any title I've ever played.
Overall, FEAR 2 easily makes it into my short list of all-time favorite video games; praise doesn't get higher than that.

Literally every single Valve server:

- at least two of your teammates are AFK
- three or more spies and/or snipers
- gibusvision pyro running the wrong way
- Russian children having casual, high-pitch conversations with eachother over voice comms
- free-to-plays begging for items
- six engineers nested up on the final point of any payload map
- playing medic, low on health and on fire, a 124 HP scout steals the health pack while your medigun is on him
- nobody listens to voice warnings about spies and sentries
- you're the only player on the team actually doing the objective
- die to a random crit during overtime
- get autobalanced to the other team and immediately lose the round
- get votekicked, accused of cheating, for having thrice the amount of points as the second-best player

Updated 6/7 2020:
The game is and has been absolutely INFESTED with the most blatant of cheaters for the past six months now, and Valve still to this day outright refuses to put forth any sort of real effort towards resolving the situation.
I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel to be a brand new player getting placed into a casual match on the official game servers, with the absolute state of complete and utter chaos those are in now.
This used to be one of the finest online first person shooters, but unfortunately can no longer be recommended.

They say a picture says more than a thousand words.
If that's true, then how many words is a video good for?

PCGamingWiki[pcgamingwiki.com] has an article with fixes and tweaks needed to comfortably play this title;
disable motion blur, lens flares, bloom, the stupid "smooth" framerate feature (which really just caps you to 62 by default for no reason at all) as well as a little piece of software which lets you change your FOV setting to something other than the default eye cancer inducing 70.

At the end of the day an overall rating of 4/10 seems fair, recommended only if you are bored and desperate for anything to play.

The campaign is reasonably immersive and entertaining, but corners were cut everywhere developing this game, and it really shows.

This game has changed my life.

Never again will I be able to go out in public and not instinctively scout out every single security camera in the area.
Never again will I be able to make a deposit at the bank, without singling out the branch manager.
Never again will I be able to sit in the reception of a hospital, without having to constantly fight the burning urge to get up and shout at everyone to "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!".
Never again will I be able to peacefully enjoy a barbecue party hosted by the neighbor, without subconsciously wondering whether or not he's printing counterfeit currency in his basement.

Easily a 10/10, A+ title.

A one-of-a-kind, challenging and truly refreshing first person puzzle game.

As you progress through the levels, you gain control over four different dimensions in addition to the normal one (fluffy, heavy, slow and reverse gravity), which you need to take advantage of in order to complete the sometimes very tightly timed puzzles.
First person puzzling and precision jumping on the Unreal engine felt a little awkward to me at first, but once mastered, this is a really enjoyable game from beginning to end.

Would recommend to anyone, especially fans of the Portal franchise.

Hold MOUSE1, tap SPACE, WASD.
A mindless, point-and-click arena based first person shooter.
Fan/community made "mod" worth roughly four hours of gameplay, if you don't fall asleep from the repetitiveness of it all before then.

It goes like this:
You enter an area, pick up some ammo, and kill endless waves of monsters coming at you.
Advance to the next area and repeat.

The size of said battle areas had me feeling a bit claustrophobic at first, but towards the end of the game they seemed to expand, allowing for better mobility (similar to every other Painkiller title, this game wants you to bunnyhop everywhere).
The monsters you fight are nothing new - all have been seen in the earlier games. Same goes for the weapons.
Nothing wrong with them, just nothing new.

The final boss was a joke.
I would only recommend this game to players who have already finished 'Black Edition' and 'Overdose', which are much much better games.

This game is from an era when games actually posed a challenge - and where extreme difficulty truly meant extreme difficulty.
Level design is good, but can be confusing at times. Just the right amount of props and nice attention to detail.
Monster design is flawless, and impressively creative for a title of this age.
I'm not sure the physics are suitable for what the gams is about, but it sure has resulted in hysterical laughter on a few occasions.
Weapons are interesting and well balanced, and their handling feels superb.
The engine itself is a genuine masterpiece, and runs without any hickups whatsoever.

There are a few things I'm not a fan of though;
- You're forced to kill all enemies in a level, before being able to progress. Now, this wouldn't be that big of a deal, if monsters didn't sometimes hide in places they should never have been able to reach in the first place.

- The concept of soul collecting, because it forces you to wait around dead bodies for a handful of seconds, before they fizzle away and turn into souls that can be picked up.

- Coins/treasures/Tarrot cards - To this day, I still have not been able to figure out exactly what they're for.
You're fine ignoring them completely, and enjoying the game as a pure shooter anyway.

- The save/load menu is a frustrating thing to use, no matter how much experience you have with it.
The list of autosaves quickly reaches a length where maintaining an overview of your progress is impossible (just delete what you don't use at the end of each chapter).

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the game from beginning to end, and it managed to keep me entertained the whole time, which is a tall order these days.
The above applies to the first game of the series as well, which for some reason I cannot review.
